my internet went out last saturday (so a bit over a week ago), taking with it my cable and landline (yes, i still have a landline), and now i feel like i've been gone for MONTHS. a tech came yesterday morning, replaced a cable, reconnected the signal (someone had disconnected my line and connected it to someone else's service in the building) (no word if it was another comcast tech or a contractor or what, but dude, what a lazy asshole thing to do), and got me back online. yay.
i caught up on some reading (mostly comics) and watched deadwood s1, which i got for my birthday a bunch of years ago. now i need to watch s2 and s3 since apparently there's going to be a movie. it's full of actors who were on sons of anarchy, plus timothy olyphant who is as cute as ever, plus baby kristen bell as a thief and con artist (she comes to a bad end but lots of people do), and i really like it.
last weekend my sister and i saw vice and while i think christian bale did an excellent job as dick cheney, i also think the actual dick cheney is an entirely awful person. the single positive thing you can say about him is that if the movie is to be believed, he genuinely and sincerely loves his wife and daughters. but i will not be at all sorry when his heart finally gives out. the movie is really well done, tho.
work is work - one of the senior associates is leaving this coming week but a manager who quit a couple years ago is coming back, and i spend a lot of time in post offices waiting to mail certified mail - on thursday i stopped at a dunkin' donuts on the way home because i was STARVING, and even tho i ordered and paid for one (1) chocolate doughnut, the guy behind the counter gave me seven (7). because, i dunno, they'd just throw them out otherwise? that particular dunks is surrounded by office buildings, and after 5:30 or 6 no one's coming in, so maybe he figured it was better to give some away than to throw them away. not that i'm complaining! i have doughnuts in my freezer. :D
last night it snowed and then today it rained and i only spent half an hour digging out my car! i just moved enough snow to get in the driver's-side door (which was frozen shut anyway >.< ) and pull it forward and then away from the curb. it was covered in frozen snow, which wasn't so exciting, but whatever, i got it free. :D and then drove it to wegman's where i discovered the roads were probably worse than i thought, because there was practically no one there. and wegman's on a sunday is ALWAYS CROWDED. curling was canceled so once i got home i stayed here. now it's just cold. if you live in a part of the country where you were slammed by winter weather, i hope you survived it intact.
and finally, happy late birthday to
becofoz (world traveler!) and an acknowledgement of the 100th anniversary of the
great molasses flood (jan 15) and the 100th anniversary of the start of prohibition (jan 16). raise a glass and have a molasses cookie. :D
