the timeless series finale was on tonight and let me thank
wrenlet for telling me about it. i was always of two minds about the show - the romance between wyatt and lucy seemed to exist just because the ptb thought they needed a romance between the male and female leads, and not because of any sexual chemistry between the actors or any really decent writing, and holy cow the plots were convoluted, and for a show about time travel they got to be very cavalier about changing history, and there is just no fucking way lucy was an expert on every time period they went to, but a lot of the timelines and historical personages of the week were neat (they met the lone ranger! who was a black sheriff! and a badass!) (and ian fleming!) (and marie curie! altho i think she was kind of wasted in her episode) and the ptb always did a nice job with the various difficulties women and black folks faced in the various times they went to - wow, that was a digression. anyway. a lot of the romance was dumb (i liked jiya and rufus, but i never even understood lucy and flynn, and i think the ptb cheated by saying "well, it happens in the future!" which meant they never had to make it make sense) and the effects of time travel didn't seem to be very consistent, but it was still a weirdly compelling show and even tho it made me roll my eyes so hard i sprained something, i kept watching. and after the cliffhanger ending of s2 it was really nice to get some closure.
on my way out of work today - like, in the elevator - i discovered that one of the girls in forensics? advisory? a non-tax service line on my floor, anyway, watches this is us, so for five minutes, until she went one way to go home and i went another, i got to go OMGOMG with someone else in person. i need to do that more often.
also, rip, penny marshall. i know, i know, laverne & shirley, big, a league of their own, the first female director whose movie grossed over $100m, etc etc, but let me submit her cameo in hocus pocus, when she appeared in a bathrobe and curlers to snap at her brother for dancing with sarah jessica parker. i think it's my favorite penny marshall thing, altho i really liked a league of their own. there's no crying in baseball. :D
