a couple things i forgot from saturday:
a. on the way to the t station i passed a house with a bunch of books sitting outside on the little retaining wall that holds the front yard back from the sidewalk - all novels, all free. so i took neal stephenson's quicksilver, which is MASSIVE, and on the way home since they were still there, i took something called buccaneer which is about, you guessed it, a pirate. :D
b. i was in the bookstore in harvard square checking out the next books after the long way to a small, angry planet when one of the salesgirls noticed and came over to a. pimp them at me, and b. talk about small, angry planet. it was fun! altho i didn't buy anything. i mean, i had free books.
who wants to see some pics of canadian produce?
from marché jean-talon, in montreal.
not produce, but the doorway to a spice/tea shop inside the market.
lookit those giant onions!
the radishes are so pretty and, uh, vaguely phallic.
doesn't everyone buy their zucchinis in baskets?
giant garlics, the bane of vampires everywhere.
so organized and decorative!
i never knew carrots came in other colors besides orange. surprise!
pattypans.
so many currants.
"bleuet sauvage" is not, as you might guess, a savage blueberry. the little drawings on the signs are a nice touch.
mushrooms with a little parsley garnish! how cute is that?
the beigeish fruit that looks like it's got a little paper wrapper is a golden berry, and it tastes like a cross between a berry and a grape tomato. so weird.
of course you need a little sheep with the sheep's-milk cheese.
no idea if the sweet pickle oysters taste like pickles.
gratuitous street art.
muslim girl, syrian refugee, metalhead - in which a syrian refugee talks about being a fan of heavy metal in a very traditional muslim country. (she's now in germany, where it's much more acceptable to be a metalhead.)
