so we got some storm today. SO WINDY OMG. also the waterfront flooded, apparently to the bottom of the street where my office is. O.O we had the third highest tide since 1921. (the first highest tide was in january, followed by the blizzard of '78.) i had to cover reception off and on, and the news showed a fairly constant stream of storm pics - flooded roads, a house that looked like it had been built in the middle of a pond, a bunch of kids getting a ride in a front-loader because i guess they got trapped in their house, downed trees, reporters standing near the water going "yeah, it's really windy out here...." i could hear the building creak, in the ceiling and walls, and it was very disconcerting considering our office is on the thirteenth and fourteenth floors and that's only about halfway up. it was too windy for an umbrella, and in fact the trash barrel in front of my home t station was full of broken ones. (mine blew inside-out like four times this morning.)
there were a lot of flights canceled or delayed all over the place, and one flight had such a bumpy landing
that everyone on board threw up.
basically it was a good night to stay home and eat leftover coq au vin enchiladas and catch up on tv. i missed the end of this is us and i want to rewatch the magicians and i think i missed a blacklist on wednesday. well, i would have caught up on tv but i had to watch jaws and then jaws 2, and now it's late.
a fourteen-year-old girl in florida
raised $20k for hundreds of girls to see a wrinkle in time. she's a black girl who's into science, and she wanted other black girls to be able to see a scifi movie starring someone who looked like them.
this is just a really interesting and sad article about archeology and erosion and government projects and having to excavate ancient sites in a hurry.
