wednesday night
tamalinn called and said she was on her way home from work, she'd had a day, did i want to meet her for nachos and beer? i did, yes. (well, nachos anyway.) so i put on my shoes, put on my coat, get in my car, and... drive over a nail. >.< a big one. which is still buried in my tire, no doubt plugging up a big hole. my tires aren't even six weeks old! they're new! and now i have to get up early tomorrow morning and drive out to the place i got them so a nice mechanic can pull the nail and plug the hole in the tire, so i can run the rest of my errands. (doctor's appointment, volunteering in the kitchen at the curling club, seeing the post with my sister.) not how i wanted to spend my saturday morning.
and then! tamalinn took a rain check for the nachos and beer, which meant we went last night - to a place conveniently around the corner from my house :D - and when i got home i discovered i lost the clicker to my car. the clicker is attached to my house keys, and i can't just lose it - i have to pull it off the ring. which i never do. and i had the clicker on wednesday, because i drove over a nail. the only thing i could think is that someone got my keys out of my purse, pulled the clicker off the ring, and put the keys back. which is absurd. i found the spare clicker, bought a new battery, replaced the battery, can now get into and then drive my car.
i love my car but seriously, owning one is such a pain in the butt. it's been an automotively weird and frutrating couple of days.
on the other hand, i met
gnomi for lunch yesterday for the first time in months and stuffed my face with tuna noodle casserole (soooo good) (it had peas and i love peas in stuff), and last night tamalinn and i had nachos as promised, along with ribs and fried chicken and cole slaw and cornbread and a waffle. the slaw was good and not too soupy, the ribs weren't bad, the chicken was nice and crispy, and i've had better cornbread. (i had the waffle for dinner tonight. also not bad. probably would've been better last night, when it was fresh and crispy, rather than having been nuked a little.) so yesterday was a good food day, but not a fabulous car day.
i'm finally catching up with stuff at work, almost, and i'd be more caught up if i hadn't lost an hour and a half on wednesday for a harassment/discrimination/respect-at-work training. it was mandatory. it mostly involved one of the women from hr reading the slides and occasionally going into more detail, and towards the end we broke into little groups, each of which got a specific instance of harassment/discrimination to discuss - "this is the situation, what's the problem and what do you do about it?" some of them were outright harassment, some were less clear-cut. a lot of it was stuff i already know, and basically it was an hour and a half i could've used to get shit done. oh well. the training leader said more than once that even partners were subject to the firm's anti-harassment policy, but let's be honest, if i was being harassed by one of the partners, even tho i like the girls in hr, if i went to them with a complaint about a partner i'm not 100% sure they'd have my back. hr isn't there for the employee, it's there for the firm.
in totally other news, i'm liking the magicians, now that it's back, altho i don't care a whole lot about alice's storyline, altho i never really did. if half the show was eliot & margo and the other half was julia & kady & penny, with some quentin for seasoning, i'd be ok with that. (as an aside, i love jason ralph's nose. this does not make me weird. he just has a really great profile. and great hair.) (kady also has great hair.) eliot and margo being sff pop culture nerds is the best. i still really love the good place. vikings is vikings, it's super violent and i miss ragnar. is anyone else watching happy!? (it has the exclamation mark! it has to be happy! regardless of final punctuation.) it's so weird! and violent! and weird! i love it. and did anyone else watch damnation? it's about striking farmers and wealthy assholes and what i guess could be called labor disputes in iowa in the 30s, so it's right in my wheelhouse. and it ended on an obnoxious cliffhanger. and it took a few episodes to get into but i ended up really liking it.
i feel like i've missed a birthday or something. did i miss a birthday?
