i should be putting on my shoes and leaving

stuff i keep forgetting to mention about chicago:

a. there were a lot of panhandlers and homeless folks. i mean, there are a reasonable number of homeless folks in boston too, but i'm not used to being panhandled on the subway. it happened at least four times when i was in chicago, once from a man claiming he needed money for his diabetes meds. if true, that is just appalling, because no one should have to beg for money to buy medication. if not true, it's not a bad hustle.

b. they have structures that look like bus shelters on the outdoor el platforms, with... heat lamps. so you can stand under a heat lamp like an entree at a restaurant while you wait for your train.

(yes that's a distorted reflection of me in my fabulous new ll bean parka.)

c. on the train to the airport i ended up talking to a guy who asked me where i was going, since i had my suitcase and i might have said i was going to the airport, and when i said i was going home and i was from boston, he got all excited and said he was going to boston the next day, because his girlfriend was there already interviewing for a position in a lab at (i think) boston university, and if she got the job he was going to move out there with her. it was the first time he'd ever moved anywhere for a girl, except they'd been together like six years and she was actually his fiancee. (i think he should have led with that bit of information.) he proposed to her in a restaurant and she said no. O.O and this was after people had started applauding for them! the poor guy wanted to cry, but then she said she was kidding. so now they're engaged. i wished her luck through him. if she got the job she'd start in january, which really doesn't give them time to find a place to live, but i didn't want to tell him that because it sounds kind of like bad news. i wonder if she got the job, and if they're coming out here. he was really friendly and it was just the nicest way to end my trip.

yesterday i went to harvard square to get my comics, and there was nothing new! gasp! but there were girl scout cookies in the t station, the table being manned by two moms and one lone brownie. i bought a box, because of course i did. i love girl scout cookie season. after that i went to target, which was not a zoo! i was expecting a zoo, two days before christmas. i got new towels (they're pink!) and a new pillow and tights and socks, none of which i needed right then but which i'd need to buy eventually, and mostly i just didn't want to go home. i even had a short but super friendly conversation with the cashier about beach houses, because my towels were that kind of color.

and today i worked on my writing project for writing group - every december we have a specific project to do for the first meeting in january, because we basically take december off - i didn't like my first attempt but am much happier with what i did today - and helped tamalinn move her bed so she could put down a rug, and now i'm going to my sister's to watch the force awakens in preparation for seeing the last jedi tomorrow. i have not been spoiled. go me. :D

this is so weird - apparently grindr - the dating/hookup app - has an online magazine, and it's not terrible!

star wars, writing group, chicago, fun with my sister, comics, girl scout cookies, weekend wrapup, grindr
