so who got to see the eclipse? how much did you get to see? boston only got 63% coverage, but it was during my lunch hour. :D so i sat outside and, uh, occasionally looked directly at the sun. >.< i did also watch the eclipse as reflected off my phone screen. on the one hand, super cool. but on the other, it didn't even get dark.
the eclipse was first hyped back in 1932 so i was hoping for some darkness, at least. the next total eclipse will cross the us in 2024 and the path of totality will be a little closer to boston, so it's not like this was my only chance to see one.
bonnie tyler was on a cruise ship singing total eclipse of the heart, natch. also have
an international space station photobomb.
in more boring and less scientific news, my sister came over for brunch yesterday so my apartment was actually clean! i made a frittata and she brought bagels. saturday night we saw logan lucky which was fun, and as you probably know there was a tiny "free speech" rally on boston common saturday day, plus a massive march and counter-protest. there were 40k protestors, vs maybe fifty people for the rally.
it was a little uneven. i couldn't go but my mom texted me and my sister - "are you at the rally??" - so i watched some of it on msnbc. very impressive. also good weather for a protest.
buffalo soldiers were members of all-black army regiments formed after the civil war - the term comes from the native americans they fought, because black men's hair reminded them of buffalo hair - there was one woman, cathay williams, who disguised herself as a man so she could serve,
and now there's a statue of her in kansas. cool, huh?
i'm watching will and i can't get over how little i care about the love story. at least there's a lot of other really interesting stuff going on. they seem to have gotten away from the punk musical stylings, which i miss, but visually it's still good, and there are a bunch of poc, which is nice. still thoroughly enjoying preacher, violence and all, especially since i keep remembering bits of it from the comics. also i just really like all the actors. and stuff is happening! on killjoys, and some of it makes sense and some of it doesn't but i really want to know where it's going. plus there's some great banter. and i think that's all the new tv i care about. oh, queen of the south! is anyone else watching it? you know what happens to the main character, which takes away a little bit of tension, but seeing how she gets to that point is really fascinating.
