What I just finished reading:
the scottish prisoner, which as the title suggests is really more the story of jamie fraser (the outlander dude and prisoner of the title) than john grey. even tho it's nominally grey's series. the first scene is fraser's, the last scene is fraser's, and even when grey is doing his own thing he's thinking about fraser and how things will affect him. if i wanted to read about jamie fraser and his pride and honor and manpain i'd read the outlander novels.
on the other hand, the scenes that are grey-centric are good, and he gets a dachshund puppy from his tall and ridiculously-dressed german friend. he also gets some orgasms from said german friend, finally. (i ship it hard.)
What I am reading now:
biting the sun, by tanith lee, which i read a long time ago but for whatever reason want to read again. i haven't had a chance to start it because i just finished the scottish prisoner today, but we'll see what i remember and what i don't, and if i like it as much as i did the first time i read it.
What I'm going to read next:
not a clue.
is anyone watching will besides me and
amnisias? if so, what do you think? personally i think the love story and attendant love triangle are boring, and i'm more interested in marlowe than shakespeare, but the modern music and punk-influenced costuming are fun, and they make london look so bright and colorful. i'm curious what's historically accurate, what's a reasonable guess, and what's totally made up. it's not my time period so i don't feel the urge to yell at the tv. :D
you know how nasa is trying to hire someone to be the planetary protection officer?
a nine-year-old boy applied for the position and i think that is the cutest thing.
an article about the animators who made that totally adorable in a heartbeat animated short.

employee of the week - actually clients' dogs, but who cares when you can work with such cute faces watching you?
muslim miss universe contestant does the bikini portion of the contest in a kaftan so she can still compete without having to compromise her faith. she looks pretty fantastic, too.
the greatest band that never was - the b-girls were an all-girl band from canada in the late 70s/early 80s. they never made a record and it sounds like they should have. i wish i'd seen this article last year when i was writing the punk au for bigbang.
the bunny farmers of ancient mexico. *nose twitch*
so you know how civilization as we know it is supposed to have started in ancient mesopotamia, when people started settling in cities and raising crops?
we might have started doing that thousands of years earlier. archaeology is so cool. i love it when we find out something is much older than we thought.
