What I just finished reading:
the ides of april which i enjoyed, altho i figured out who the murderer was before flavia albia did, and
i knew tiberius and faustus were the same person for pretty much the entire book, but it has a sense of humor i like and i really appreciate a thoroughly researched historical novel. structurally it was very similar to the didius falco books, and i imagine the next one in the series is similarly, er, similar, but familiar isn't always terrible.
i also bought and finished the second jem and the holograms trade, written by kelly thompson and drawn by a bunch of people who aren't sophie campbell (emma vieceli, corin howell, and amy mebberson), and which was just as cute and fun and vaguely silly as the first trade. there was a karate kid reference which made me giggle.
What I am reading now:
i just finished jem today, so i haven't started it yet, but under the black flag: the romance and reality of life among the pirates, by david cordingly, which is non-fiction for a change. it used to be my dad's, and now it's mine. i just wish i'd seen it before the pirate nanonovel.
What I'm going to read next:
after the pirates? your guess is as good as mine.
i did not watch the presidential debate tonight because i value my sanity. those of you who did watch are stronger people than i. if you need something cute and silly (that isn't jem and the holograms :D ), i bring you
the finalists of the comedy wildlife photography awards. i love all the owls, but the faceplanting fox and the bird pooping on the, uh, is it a water buffalo? those are both priceless.

tiny house. the builders did the smart thing and turned the stairs into storage. also, look at the metal circles on the floor. that's apparently where you screw in the table, so you can have a coffee table in front of the couch or a dining table over by the kitchen without having to have extra furniture.
