i feel like i missed a birthday. did anyone have a birthday? should i have offered cake and/or dancing boys and/or dancing girls? i only know what day it is because supergirl was on. (cute, as per usual.)
anyway. i went to see
wrenlet and am back. we did exactly what i thought we'd do - watched sense8 (which i really liked) and daredevil (which i also really liked altho i spent a lot of time wishing they'd turn the lights on), went to waffle house (twice!), ate sushi and mexican food (not at the same time), met wren's friend amy and her two corgis (
who are made of derp and increasingly shrill demands, according to amy's cousin's wife, who you may or may not know as
ursulav) (derp and increasingly shrill demands do have actual names and are excessively cute, because corgi), got dog hairs ALL OVER MY COAT (unexpected but shouldn't have been), watched haven and had to flail (BOYS), ate fried chicken and dim sum (again, not at the same time), and chilled right the hell out. basically i spent a few days watching tv and eating and being sat on by the cuddliest corgi EVER. and i bought a jar of moonshine cordials for the parental unit and a jar of muscadine butter for myself. (it's a grape. i remember muscadine jelly from my childhood.) also wren made me watch the pilot of miss fisher's murder mysteries, which i thoroughly enjoyed. enjoying tv was kind of the theme of the trip. well, and eating too much.
i'm not used to basketball-themed jelly bellys. (unc, duke, north carolina state.)
oh, and the thing i wasn't planning on - ghost pepper vodka. amy's cousin brought it to her house for thanksgiving and left it and because i am eternally curious, i had to try it. initial taste: vodka. instantly followed by: PEPPER. finishing with: I NEED SOME MILK. amy also had some leftover mead and that was much less painful and also more delicious. i mean, mead.
superclue! because you cannot escape this show.
in totally other news, i completely spaced on the december 2 month-of-babble topic, which was hats! for
deirdre_c, and the short babble is that i love hats and think they should make a comeback. there are some lovely cloche hats in miss fisher's murder mysteries. the long babble is, uh, i love hats and think they should make a comeback. :D i bought a hatbox for my top hat so i could take it to wincons at
goorin bros (there's one in harvard square), so of course i had to sign up for the mailing list which means every week or so i get an email with photos of good-looking people in good-looking hats. it makes me happy. also every time i go to the peabody essex museum i have to make a pass through the gift shop to try on their hats. i have entirely the wrong wardrobe for hats, and my winter coat has a hood anyway, but i still think more people should wear them.
there's still
a ton of days if you want me to babble about something.
raiders of the lost ark is on and i cannot contain myself. "who knows? in a thousand years even you may be worth something." ("good god." "yes, that's just what the hebrews thought.") karen allen was twenty-nine or thirty when she made this movie and she looks like a baby.
"why does the floor... move?" "give me your torch. *drops it* snakes. why'd it have to be snakes?" "asps. very dangerous. you go first."
happy second day of hanukah, my fellow hebs. :D
"we are simply passing through history. this, this is history." man, i love this movie.
