yesterday and today were much better at work, mostly because i didn't have to sit at the front desk all day. also i got a chair massage. fifteen minutes and i was ready for a nap. it was niiiice.

What I just finished reading:
sabriel (which is coincidentally listed here as one of the hundred sf&f books to read in a lifetime), which i'd forgotten was specifically ya until the love story subplot kicked in. it was very much a secondary plotline, but i kind of rolled my eyes anyway. especially since sabriel's love interest turns out to be the illegitimate son of the last queen, which makes him the only surviving member of royalty and thus the king-to-be. because OF COURSE. also i have no idea how much older he is - she's eighteen - but i kept thinking "this guy's gotta be older than, like, twenty-two, and she's technically still in high school, and ew." but other than that, i liked it. i liked the worldbuilding and the magic system and the lack of infodumping. i love it when authors trust their audiences to figure stuff out on their own, and when the book is well-written enough that the audience can do that.

What I am reading now:
nk jemisin's the hundred thousand kingdoms, because i succumbed to all the good press. so far i'm enjoying it, altho i really want a map. i occasionally have a hard time wrapping my head around the fact that there are gods walking around with as much personal agency as a dog on a leash, which is to say, none. i mean, they're gods, walking around sky like someone's pets, to be unleashed at will. the book is weirdly casual about it.

What I'm going to read next:
someone who shall remain nameless but looks a lot like dear-tiger says i should read middle ground, by ursula zilinsky, which is out of print but you can get it used for cheap on amazon. so maybe.

izombie last night was a lot of "yay! it's back!" ending with "this can't end any way other than badly". overall a lot of yay, tho. ravi is still my favorite. and tonight was the premiere of the new season of american horror story, but aside from the fact that it has matt bomer looking gothy and pretty and occasionally showing naked bomerbutt, i don't think it's my thing. some of the music is really good, tho.

new job second floor, wednesday reading meme, izombie, american horror story
