i was watching the avengers earlier (it was on tv) and right after natasha performs some cognitive recalibration on clint, he looks at her and says "jess?" (and then she hits him in the face.) who's jess? i assume she's part of comics!clint backstory, like a little wink to the marvel comics readers in the audience.
jeep backs out of parking space, leaves frozen grille behind - by which i mean, a fairly perfect imprint in ice of the front of the car. (this did not happen in greater boston. it happened in north carolina. because we don't have a monopoly on winter news.)
ww1 trench cello played for the first time since the war - well, possibly. a british soldier made it out of an oil can at the front. i have no idea if there's an actual recording of it, but still, how cool.
what do you do when you're london's natural history museum and you need to scan millions of fragile bug specimens? you build lego frames for them that you can photograph around. the entomologist who figured this out is (perhaps not surprisingly) danish.
this is a really interesting article about fanfic, specifically the (apparently vast?) world of the jewish au. and for once, it's an article about fanfic that was written by someone who very obviously reads and enjoys and most importantly understands it. (she's "dismayed" by rpf but still links to a fic in which jon stewart invites a bunch of other tv pundits to his seder. i didn't read it but the image of jon stewart and stephen colbert sharing a seder is COMPLETELY ADORABLE.)
