it was snowing when i got home from work! i think it's raining now, tho. *sigh*

hi, flist. i went to vermont with the family unit for thanksgiving, did i mention that? we ate a lot and walked around a little and went to a farm (i took pictures of the chickens) (they were so fluffy!) and ate some more and shopped a little and sat in front of the giant fireplace in the lobby of the inn where we stayed and slept on the softest bed known to man. it was very high, tho. you had to kind of jump onto it. it was cold in vermont - like that's a surprise - but because it snowed on wednesday, it was also very pretty. did i mention we ate a lot? we did. it was good, tho. i even caught elementary on thursday (once i recovered from the food coma) (oh god so much food), and then missed haven on friday. and possibly grimm and constantine? and was there a new white collar i missed too? i liked elementary, at least.

i took my laptop with me so i could work on my nanonovel, and i validated on friday with 54k-something, just in case. and then i finished it, more or less, on sunday.

go me. :D it was a lot of fun to write, it's really not very good, and i rushed the ending because i always do. and on saturday, after i got home from vermont, i discovered a vikings marathon on the history channel, so i got to watch the last couple episodes of s2 and make "awww" faces at ragnar and athelstan and, er, hate athelstan's hair. i can't help it! by the end of the season it's all scraped back from his face in a ponytail and i really liked it when it was curly and fluffy.

oh come on, you knew i'd have an opinion on someone's hair at some point. :D i'm a big fan of the complicated braids the women wear, tho. i mean, lagertha's hair is uniformly nifty.

getting to watch some vikings is only important because the friar in my nanonovel is based a bit on s1 athelstan, curly hair and all. i do not however have any vikings.

sunday i totally sucked at curling, and we lost, so we're no longer undefeated. sigh. but at least we lost to the one team that was ahead of us. and it was actually close at the end. but man, was i off my game.

sarlacc bundt pit - it's a sarlacc cake, with tentacles and a gaping maw and everything. i'd totally make this except a. i don't have a madeleine pan, and b. do i know enough local star wars nerds?

oh, this reminds me, on saturday we went to the king arthur flour bakery/store/cafe/cooking school (hands up if you get king arthur flour in your local grocery store - i have no idea if it's a new england/northeast us thing, or if you can get it all over the country) and not only do they have TONS of baking supplies and gadgets and a million different kinds of flour and general cool shit, but also a lot of mixes. and i just looked at all of those boxes of cookie mixes and cake mixes and scone mixes and thought "pfft, i don't need a mix". because for someone who doesn't actually bake all that much, i can apparently be kind of arrogant about it. no cheese scone mix, tho.

the witley wonder underwater ballroom - technically not a ballroom, but it is under a manmade lake on a rich guy's estate.

lego particle accelerator - the lbc, large brick collider. hee.

so this guy came out as trans to his parents, and his parents put a birth "retraction" in the paper. it's actually really, really sweet.

little old lady can deadlift twice her own weight - holy carp. how cool is that, tho? she's kind of a badass.

vikings, star wars, cute boy bad hair, the friar and the heretic, thanksgiving, baked goods, legos, nanowrimo, nerdery, cool shit, architectural nifty, family fun, weekend wrapup, curling, good parenting award
