so many links! also my mom kind of cracks me up

last night my mom texted me: do you watch dr who? so this morning when i actually saw the text i answered her that yes, sometimes i watch it. and it turns out she and my dad watched the christmas special. mom liked it, dad didn't. my parents are in no way whovians - in fact i'd guess that was the first episode they'd ever seen - and it kind of cracks me up that they ended up watching it.

i feel like i've been collecting links and forgetting to share.

evening gown with a dragon spine - bones!

christmas dinner menu from 1660 - there's a lot of meat here and i am so not kidding. a couple days late, but whatever. now you have it for next year. :D

candy minas tirith - sweet to rot your teeth! i love the gummy armies.

a little bit about sophie blanchard, who set off fireworks from a hot-air balloon in the early nineteenth century.

yes you can even - a defense of internetspeak. when you have lost the ability to can.

scarf - a lovely little online comic.

the brookline (mass) library's tardis-shaped awesome box - an "awesome box" is basically a special returns box where library patrons leave books they especially liked. because just looking like a tardis apparently doesn't make it awesome enough.

"not that kind of doctor!" "it's always that kind of doctor." - ie, the kind of doctor who carries a sonic screwdriver around with him. :D

the obligatory curling article - this one's about the british women's team.

apparently parts of nyc are built on old british landfill - by which i mean, rubble from destroyed british cities came to the us as ships' ballast during ww2, and then it was unloaded and used to build fdr drive on the west side. so somewhere under the asphalt are bits and pieces of old english buildings.

photos from utah's first day(s?) of same-sex marriage - 'scuse me, there's something in my eye.

back to the future with... a marshmallow.

some really cool street art - check out the links for 2012's art too.

hundred-year-old photo negatives discovered in antarctica - as left behind by a polar expedition, and frozen. (well, obviously frozen, i mean it IS antarctica.)

tiny chapel converted into tiny guest house - that kind of says it all, i think.

linguistics, fun food, dr who, lotr, cool shit, architectural nifty, historical food, christmas, historical nifty, i cannot even with you, street art, gay marriage, curling, tiny houses
