i had to go to the mall to exchange something, and while i was there i experienced the fastest hard sell ever. i got accosted by a woman who was working one of the kiosks - i guess it was a face&beauty kind of thing, with lotion and facial cleanser and whatnot - she gave me a sample of lotion (i always take lotion samples because in the winter my hands are ridiculously dry), laid on the compliments (she wouldn't have stopped me if i'd been ugly), laid on the sell (i have some wrinkles here and here, she had something else for me), led me over to the kiosk, sat me down, ignored me when i said i wasn't in the market for facial stuff right now, pulled out a couple of boxes, and said "this is our most affordable option, it's $147 for both," and i said "$147? i don't have that kind of money", and she didn't exactly push me out of the chair and tell me to get lost, but she kind of did the verbal equivalent. friendly enough, but wow, abrupt. and i wanted to tell her "i told you i wasn't looking to buy anything, lady, you just elected to ignore me". which i know is her job, but still.
and y'know, even if i did have a spare $147 lying around, i wouldn't spend it on wrinkle-remover of dubious provenance. altho props to her for telling me the price right away, rather than giving me her spiel first and then springing it on me. less time wasted for both of us.
on the plus side, i exchanged my thing and bought a pretzel, and then i went to the comic store and bought the new hawkeye trade, which i mostly blame on
chaneen and the occasional cool thing i've read about matt fraction (the writer). and i tried to pimp the losers the movie to the comic store guy, whose name i wish i knew, because andy diggle and jock (who wrote and drew the losers the comic book) have a new miniseries and i was asking about it. i mentioned that the losers the movie is actually reasonably close to the losers the comic (because it is, at least plot-wise), and i thought the adaptation choices they made were good ones, and i liked both versions. comic store guy didn't like the comic book so much, but i tried to sell him on the movie. i mean, come on, jdm and chris evans and zoe saldana kicking ass and shooting people and blowing shit up. what's not to love? (i never remember that idris elba is in it, because i saw it before i knew who he was, and i didn't think it was necessary to mention the slashy undertones between jensen and cougar. i think they were kind of there in the comic, altho that could be because i read it after i'd seen the movie, so i was kind of primed to see it.) anyway, pimping. :D they didn't have any copies of andy and jock's new miniseries, tho.
