one last call for alcohol, so finish your whiskey and beer...

first! a happy hanukah to the jews on the flist! as it is said - they tried to kill us, they failed, let's eat. :D

second! kouredios is hosting a fannish friending meme on lj and dw, for them what are interested in finding more fannish friends around here. because it's hard to have a conversation on tumblr. (and i like tumblr! but i'm there for the pictures, not the conversation.) if your interest is piqued, check it out.

if you're here from there, hi. :D i should maybe warn you up front that i wasn't kidding when i said i have an idiosyncratic relationship with punctuation and sentence structure. i love the em-dash. i don't use semicolons. (possibly because i'm not always sure how....) every so often i become completely enamored of italics and parentheses. you can tell what's fic and what's not because suddenly i'll be capitalizing appropriately.

"fannish" for me means "i want to talk about the show". (or movie or book or comic or a person's body of work or whatever.) fic and art and vids and podfics and all the nifty random things fans do with the canon are super cool - i love me some fannish crafts - but that's not the main reason i'm here, and i hope that's not the only reason you're here either.

i like squee! squee is my favorite thing. (followed closely by discussion of just what the hell happened in that episode, anyway? and why? and if you want to talk about thor and loki and their complicated, kind of heartbreaking brotherly relationship - in the movies, anyway - i'm your girl.) i try very hard to live by "your kink is not my kink" etc etc and i try very hard not to judge someone for their favorite bits of fanon or canon. well, i try not to judge in general, but "judgemental" is one of my default settings (i get it from my mom) and sometimes it's hard. usually i can scratch the itch by passing judgement (but not out loud! or to their faces!) on what total strangers are wearing.

i'm not much of a slasher/shipper - it's not the first thing i look for in a potential fandom - altho i'm a huge ot3 fan in haven, and i can buy boyd/raylan in justified. i'm more of a platonic shipper. i look for bromance and the kind of deep emotional attachment that isn't necessarily sexual or romantic. (sometimes it's sibling-y. usually brothers.)

if you're here for spn, i used to be a deangirl, i'm now a samgirl, i like castiel in moderation (and i do mean moderation), i kinda miss jo, i think sam needs a haircut, and if you're a dean/castiel shipper we're not going to have anything to talk about.

if you're here for haven, i am all about the ot3, like i said, i think duke needs a haircut, i'm glad nathan isn't being a dick to him any more, and i do actually watch for the trouble-of-the-week as well as the mytharc and the lovely character stuff. i'm kind of waiting for someone to have a trouble that isn't a disruptive pain in the ass. mostly i just really like this show and like to talk to people about it.

if you're here for criminal minds, i also watch for the case-of-the-week, every time they rerun omnivore i spend half the episode yelling "BOSTON DOES NOT LOOK LIKE THAT" at the screen, i'm a spencergirl altho i love everyone on the team pretty equally, and spencer/coffee is my secondary otp. this show feeds my competence kink like nothing going, grosses me out like you have no idea, and has made me cry. (tv does not generally make me cry. i think buffy, cm, and spn are the only shows that ever have.)

if you're here for justified, come back next month after the s4 premiere. :D i think s2 was my favorite because i really, really, really loved mags bennett. she was the best of the bad guys.

if you read non-superhero comics (vertigo, assorted indies), where have you been hiding?? and what can you recommend? :D

for other moments of fannishness, my lj is unflocked, skim at will. :D i like leverage, sons of anarchy, white collar, grimm, elementary, and frank lloyd wright buildings (what? it's totally a fandom), i loved terriers and was SO BUMMED when it was canceled, my favorite nicolas cage movie (yes, i have one, please don't judge me) is gone in 60 seconds, i've watched a lot of stupid tv and a lot of bad movies for cute boys, i get cranky every time i see a preview for the syfy show defiance that doesn't have tony curran in it, and if you ever come across a mention of john/rodney in my lj, it's john and rodney from flight of the phoenix, not sheppard and mckay from sga.

i read and write very little fic. i podfic sporadically - i love to read out loud but see the part where i don't read a lot of fanfic. >.< this really cuts down on potential pods. i've done spn-j2-bigbang for three years and plan to do it again in 2013, but otherwise i write a lot more original fic than fanfic.

...not that i write a lot of original fic either. but it's my first love, so. sometimes i talk about it a lot.

i'm a huge fan of fandom. i've met the people i currently consider my closest friends through one fandom or another. pretty much anything i say about a particular fandom, or especially fandom in general, is going to turn into a big sloppy mash note covered with lip prints.

i swear there was something - oh, right. i went to pick up my comics today - nothing new *sigh* altho i did get to educate a fellow customer (who i've talked to before and whose name i don't think i know) on bookbinding and my incredibly low-tech equipment - and a bunch of restaurants under the auspices of i think the harvard business association had set up under a tent and were giving out free food! i think for hanukah! they had latkes (traditional), lobster latkes (not so much, also kind of odd), jelly doughnuts (traditional), scallion pancakes (more of a jews-at-christmas thing), potato and leek pizza (traditional for someone, i guess), and noodle kugel ice cream. which had pieces of noodle in it, and tasted like, well, noodle kugel. should've had raisins, tho. so i ate lunch for free. :D and then i bought a 2013 calendar with shoes on it, and the ghost road, which is the last of the regeneration trilogy. (and when i'm done with it i should read the book about pacifists during ww1 that my dad loaned me, so i can give it back to him.) and of course now that i'm done with the nanonovel and no longer need to be reading up on ww1, i want to watch war horse, altho mostly for tom hiddleston in uniform.

food, fandom meme, fannishness, jewstuff, starring tom and tom, i love where i live
