woot. :D

final word count according to me: 51,186
final word count according to the nanowrimo novel validator: 51,256

i think those extra words might be instances of * * *, which i used to separate pov sections. still, 51k words of something i knew NOTHING about a month ago. not bad. (whether i know anything about ww1 now is open to debate. i mean, other than the fact that it killed A METRIC SHIT-TON of people.... half the seed of europe, indeed.)

i'd be lying if i said it was all fun (battle scenes! haaaaaate), and it definitely caused me some low-level anxiety because i KNOW i didn't do the war justice, and it is in no way the story i thought apiphile and luinar wanted when i stumbled on their discussion which precipitated this entire thing, but on the whole? i'm pleased with it. there are a bunch of scenes that didn't make it, which i might write as outtakes and which i might just talk about - and which might just go the way of a lot of scenes i never get to put in a lot of stories, by which i mean no one will ever know what i didn't write except me - and i have a whole list of bookmarks that i admit i kind of want to share, because some of the stuff i found was interesting. (and horrifying, let's not forget horrifying. i'm kind of glad ww1 photographers didn't have color film. but there was interesting! and helpful!) that will be another post, tho. i just wanted to share that i finished the nanonovel. :D

excuse me while i do a little couch boogie. *does so*

it's called they call it peace, because i found a tacitus quote i really liked, which i have bradford (aka the hiddles lookalike) share with his friend cuthbertson (aka the paul bettany lookalike) - "they make a desolation and they call it peace", which is "solitudinem faciunt, pacem appellant" in latin. and which is what bradford actually says (and cuthbertson goes "what?" and thus gets the translation), because bradford is the kind of guy who quotes ancient romans in latin.

thinkgeek had a battery-operated usb turntable which was on sale when i first saw it and is now out of stock! *sigh* the one thing i really wish i'd kept when i moved is my turntable. i sold it to someone who was REALLY EXCITED to have it - her friend said she'd been looking for one for a long time - but still.

planned cities seen from space - super cool. all planned-city patterns are not created equal, but it's always interesting to see and read what a city's planners thought made a good city.

wee ice skater with safety cushion - for the cute and the giggles. :D

retronaut, technojoy, nanowrimo, starring tom and tom, architectural nifty
