there is no such thing as too much pie

...i was going to be out of the house by one. >.< today is apparently patronize small businesses day or some such thing - i guess as a counterpoint to black friday, aka "swarm your local big box/department stores and buy shit" day - and i was going to do so. by which i mean, i have comics to purchase. :D

anyway.

we went to my aunt's house for t-day and it was good, my brie went over well (altho the next time i make it i'm going to put more jam on it because it just wasn't apricotty enough), we had kind of a politics discussion after dinner which was fine because everyone was on the same side politically - and one of my aunt's friends had just moved back to boston from, uh, palm springs? i think? because she couldn't handle the pockets of conservative crazy out there - great weather, unpleasant political opinions - the food was good, there was pie (apple) AND cake (chocolate with raisins), and i took some leftover turkey home as well as leftover brie. because what's thanksgiving without leftovers? right?

and thank you all for the birthday wishes (also those of you who wished me a happy over on facebook, which always amuses me because i never use facebook), and deirdre_c and wendy for the lj gifts. :D tonight the parental unit is taking me out for dinner, so i kind of get to celebrate twice.

yesterday i went over to drglam's house and she plied me with pie and it was goood. she made a chess pie! no one up here even knows what chess pie is! and i remember it fondly from when i was wee and we lived in nashville, so you better believe that was the first pie i ate and i enjoyed it IMMENSELY. there was also cherry (yummy and not too tart) and apple (also yummy and very appley) and some cranberry relish which reminded me of charoset except without all the honey and nuts, and brown rice stuffing with granny smith apples and walnuts which was texturally a bit odd but taste-wise really, really good.

(for those who never lived in the southern us and are unfamiliar with the hysterically sweet glory that is a chess pie, have a recipe. apparently it can sometimes be kind of soupy, but sian's was DELISH.)

oh, and also we chatted a lot. :D and sian watches haven! but doesn't read my liveblogs because she records it to watch on saturday and doesn't want to be spoiled. which is totally fair. it's always nice to find someone else who watches it. :D (we did not talk in depth about how much of an asshole nathan is being, and i showed great restraint in not mentioning how badly duke needs a haircut.)

speaking of cute boys who need haircuts (I'M SORRY BUT HE DOES), i finally watched spn from like a week and a half ago (8x07? the newest one), and i mostly liked it altho i still have a hard time concentrating on the purgatory flashbacks and most things castiel-related because i just don't care. but the boys weren't at each others' throats! and there wasn't yelling and bitching! and they could actually work together and when sam asked "are you ok? what's wrong?" DEAN TOLD HIM! *gasp, shock* holy crap. so i liked that.

and the boys are still excessively good-looking. even if sam still needs a haircut.

as it now seems to be the season for thinking about christmas (even for those of us who don't celebrate...), might i offer a cute and prickly stocking stuffer. because a little hedge never goes amiss.

fun with friends, pie, haven, cute boy bad hair, supernatural recap s8, thanksgiving, hedgies
