happy (slightly late) birthday,
carta! i hope it was full of cake. and, you know, friends and family and birthday joy, but mostly cake. :D
dancing girls: *shake a tailfeather*
azewewish is in town for baseball - braves vs red sox - she came in yesterday morning and i met her for lunch and we accidentally walked to fenway park from her hotel because we totally missed the street where the restaurant was. >.< but she learned how to get to fenway - it's easy - and we saw the
fenway victory gardens, which are pretty huge and very pretty - i mean, everything's growing and blooming - and apparently the oldest victory garden in the country. (i guess after ww2, a lot of the community victory gardens were turned back into non-garden land.) i didn't even know that existed, because i'm never in that part of boston, so it was ok that we failed to turn down the right street for the restaurant. (we had pizza at a place recommended by someone on
davis-square, and it was delish.) it was brutally fucking hot and i apologized for the weather twice. >.< (thursday when i got in my car to go home after work, the weather widget on the dashboard said 105º. oh my holy god. yesterday it was just 96º.) we walked and talked and talked and ate and would have gone into trinity church except there was a wedding. (brenda wanted to see it on account of it was evidently in boondock saints, and i have seen that movie twice and don't remember it. oy. it is still however an incredibly good-looking church and totally worth checking out.)
we walked by another braves fan who also lives in la, which was fun. small world.
brenda had baseball stuff after that so i came home, took a cold shower, and lay on the floor in front of the fan for a while because i am so not a warm-weather creature, and all that walking around in the heat gave me a headache. but! it rained later and cooled off and i watched spn and could not get over how much i like sam's sideburns. seriously. but because i'm editing my bigbang, i kept half-seeing jared and jensen and not sam and dean, and that was weird. i didn't love the episode the first time - it was the defending your life one, with osiris and ghost!jo, and sam breaking into a synagogue and being discovered by a rabbi who says "i guess you're not here for bar mitzvah lessons" which still cracks me up - and didn't love it any more the second time, but the boys sure are nice to look at for an hour. and it was early enough in s7 that they still had the metallicar. and i like it when they get to be brothers who actually talk to each other and seem to generally like being with each other. it's my favorite thing about s7, i think, that they get to really be brothers again.
(brenda and i did not talk about spn at all, so i did not babble all over myself for half an hour. go me. but i'm meeting her tomorrow in harvard square and taking her to my comic shop where i might have to ask about mayhem's graphic novel, so who knows.) ("you haven't read it?" brenda asked me. "but you're one of the few people i know who doesn't hate him!" heh. i don't actually have an opinion of mayhem as a person, altho he was cute in the one episode of man vs food he was on.)
teddy girls - you know, the female equivalent of the 1950s english teddy boy. :D they're really cute.
according to the mental floss twitter (@mental_floss, natch), today is typewriter day. who wants a no doubt very short typewritten letter? because i do indeed own a typewriter, altho to be honest i'm not sure how good the ribbon is inside it. i got it at an antique store a few years ago. i think it was $24, and i have never actually used it.
