maybe it's just a character bunny

as proof of the fact that i think the universe is sometimes laughing at me, after my stunning failure as a writer in writing group last night, i had - WHILE I WAS TRYING TO FALL ASLEEP - what i guess i'd call a not-plot bunny. ie, two half-brothers (bobby, who has brown hair, and cal, who has blond hair) in a vardo. i think they belong in the post-apocalypse because a. i have no idea why else they'd be traveling in a vardo and not, like, a van or a truck or a motorhome or something, considering that b. they're not gypsies/travelers, and also c. i think they're itinerant handymen and carpenter types. they may or may not have a cat, which has its own little fenced-in balcony type outdoor viewing area on the back of the vardo which is actually something i've seen online somewhere, on a vardo that some couple built for themselves and their cat. also there's a horse to pull the vardo. cal may or may not be physically based on matt barr, who played floppy-haired johnse hatfield, son of "devil" anse hatfield, played by kevin costner, on hatfields & mccoys. (tv johnse was blessed with an abundance of pretty rather than brains or sense. on the other hand, he can lie EXCEPTIONALLY convincingly because he is SO SINCERE.) i have no idea who bobby looks like. they share a mom but not a dad, as i think their mother was the kind of woman who didn't want a husband but did want kids, and who would occasionally sleep with men who she thought would contribute good dna to a baby. so her sons only kind of look alike.

so i'm thinking about this as i'm trying to sleep, wondering mostly if my subconscious wants me to write about the post-apocalypse again, and why don't i ever have plot bunnies about women? and also, oh thank god an idea that isn't rps.

today i had a conversation with fred the other architect about deer and moose and hitting them with your car - and also about moose and buses - and i got shit done (tm) and the sun's out and i'm going to go home and rerecord parts of my podfic because i was talking waaaaay too fast and i can fix the whole thing tomorrow because i will be in the office with the office computer and the boss will be in pennsylvania. so it's been a better day than yesterday. which, you know, yay.

hatfields & mccoys, work, evp, plot bunnies, apocafic
