so i actually kinda liked spn last night,
especially the waiter in the cafe telling dean - with a totally straight, earnest face! - that he was a virile manifestation of the divine. i figured out the case before the boys did, which, whatever, it was a predictable episode that way, and i think i only had to yell at the tv once - when dean said he hated lying to sam, it felt wrong, i may or may not have yelled "so why do you do it so fucking often??" - but overall it felt kind of like a throwback episode, and not just because they namechecked missouri (s1), pamela (s4), and ellen (she'll always be s2, never mind her short appearance in s5), or because i kept thinking of provenance (s1). they even threw in a random stranger thinking the boys were a couple, which used to be the ptb winkwinknudgenudge in-joke with the fangirls before they started harping on dean and castiel. the scale felt smaller than it has since s3, the episode was all about the motw while using it as a way to look at unrelated (and not mytharc-y) emotional stuff going on with the boys, and it was comparatively light on the OMGANGSTANDAGONY altho there was still tension. altho after dean got the message-from-beyond from ellen, that he had to start trusting sam, he went right into "how do i know i can trust you?", which was SO not what she was talking about, but also! also! he admitted that what's been eating him lately is that he hates lying to his brother. so maybe now all that's out in the open, we can get back to them trusting each other (yes, even tho sam is theoretically still suffering from lucifervision) and maybe not lying so much.
hey, a girl can dream.
so i liked it, even tho the case was predictable and felt like a rehash of older cases and the girl whose name i can't remember was cute but unexceptional. altho with all the mention of psychics, no one ever remembered that sam used to have prophetic visions too. which is an especially big oversight when they're deliberately referencing s1 and s2. and i couldn't believe dean would hotwire the car he did. i mean, seriously, dude, have some pride. at least steal a car that doesn't need a paint job so badly.
and because this one was called the mentalists, i kind of expected simon baker to show up briefly.
i might have some actual hope for this season. i thought s6 overall was slightly better than s5, altho i didn't like s5 so i don't think that's a particularly high bar, and i still didn't love s6. but so far s7 is kind of ok, and i don't hate the mytharc nearly as much as i hated it for s4 and s5.
in other news, i just need to make my word count for today and i'll be caught up on my nanonovel. woot. i know what the next scene is and the scene after that, which is always nice. and today i found a coffeeshop that isn't packed to the rafters on weekend days - ie, it's not the diesel - so i got to write somewhere that isn't my house. and i was productive!
i keep forgetting the monthly fic roundup, probably because there's only one fic to round up:
halloween (harley and corbin) - the least creepy halloween story EVER.
there's some kind of low-level vibrating hum or something coming from somewhere - it sounds like a motor turned down slightly, and i don't know where it's coming from or what it is and it is driving me BUGNUTS.
americans! don't forget to turn your clocks back an hour tonight! an extra hour of sleep, WOOT.
and now because it is almost nine, i think i'll have dinner. there is a leek pie at the chinese restaurant down the street that is calling my name.
