happy late birthdays to
lostin-thestars (who's been quiet on lj as of late...) and
fleurrochard (who has been slightly less so), and on time birthday to
ohmyghost (who's out there... somewhere...)! here's to cake, wherever you guys are. :D
dancing boys: *swing!*
unpacking proceeds apace. also there's a chinese restaurant a block from my house - walking distance! - and their dumplings are tasty. and i looooove the sauce that comes with them. i plan to work my way thru all their dumpling variations. also i can tell parking is going to be an adventure, just in general. also also i slept like shit last night. *sigh* but it started to rain and did not rain into the house! which is an improvement over the old place, and means i don't have to get out of bed at ass-o'clock next time to check all the windowsills for damp. i do like the apartment, tho. it's cozy. and the more books i unpack, the more it feels like mine. the plants help too. i love my plants.
i think i need a butcher block kind of thing for the kitchen, tho. i could use a little more workspace and there's definitely room for it. onward to ikea! :D
also i have no idea if my mail is forwarding or not. i haven't gotten a single bill since i moved in, and while there are definitely days i don't get any mail, a whole week without anything is pushing it. if the post office is not actively forwarding my mail i'm going to be pissed. i don't want all my bills to be paid late because the post office delivered them late, because everyone who works there is an idiot.
(when i first moved to my former apartment, i didn't get mail for two weeks because - according to whoever i talked to - my name wasn't on the door. this despite the fact that we ALWAYS got mail addressed to people who didn't live there. i put my name on the door and suddenly i got two weeks' worth of mail all at once. that shouldn't be the case now, tho, because my name IS on my mailbox. hmph, post office. HMPH.)
finally watched burn notice from last week and i'm sorry, charisma carpenter will always be cordelia chase to me. i can't picture her as anyone else, and i'm not sure she's a good enough actress to be convincing. on the other hand, i like sam and jesse a lot.
did lj do away with the autofill for tags? or is it just safari that won't do it?
i feel weirdly fic-memey for no particular reason, but the only fic memes i've seen are fanfic related, and i don't think i write enough of it to count and am not totally convinced to meme with original fic. i can do the "top ten fics by hits on ao3" thing, at least.
i should maybe preface this by saying i don't read fic on ao3 and so have no idea what the hit count actually means, in terms of a fic's popularity or if it was recced or what. i can only compare my own fics to each other.
angels on ariels (cwrps) - i am somehow unsurprised this has the most hits - i wrote it for
spn-j2-bigbang and it's nc-17. and includes jensen/matt bomer. (which was apparently a selling point for some people! which also doesn't surprise me because come on, that's a lot of pretty in one place.) and it actually got comments! i think my favorite parts of this fic are a. danneel, b. katie, and c. the cast page. and also d. the return of the 1924 marmon. and it was fun to write. and i think about it every time i go into starbucks and the barista who looks kind of like genevieve cortese is there.
love like gasoline (cwrps) - aw, it's my
spn-cinema fic. which is kind of gen for j2. which, well, at heart it's about the love of one boy for another, but i really wrote it for the cars, and if one love story is jared and jensen, the other is jensen and eleanor. (she is forty-four years old, sleek and black and three thousand pounds of detroit steel and automotive muscle, and she is the most beautiful thing jensen has ever seen.) part of me still wishes i could've made it sam&dean, tho, because i remain convinced that gone in sixty seconds has "winchester brothers" written alllll over it.
a good boyfriend (cwrps) - h/c timestamp for angels on ariels that was actually posted first. it was a little weird writing and posting a timestamp for something i couldn't show anyone yet. turns out i wrote this for
embroiderama without knowing it at the time, which is really cool in retrospect.
we're all mad here (sg1) - fic by
staranise, podfic by me. i honestly would've thought this would have a higher hit count, based mostly on the fact that it got a comparative lot of comments. we did it for
pod-together, which was really fun and something i think i'd like to do again.
lucky (cwrps) - i almost never write second person pov and am not quite sure why that's what i used for this, but nothing else fit. also it's the only fic in the gangster 'verse from jared's pov. it was written third but actually takes place last of all the timestamps. oddly enough it's also the only one for which i did no research whatsoever. at this point i didn't even know where the boys settled, other than "somewhere in the southwest", but didn't think it was important for the fic.
kate (white collar) - seriously? this has more hits than i would've expected, considering i don't write white collar fic, i don't really read it, and i'm not involved in the fandom at all. (why yes i do tend to think how involved one is/how much one writes in a fandom is directly related to how many readers one gets for one's fic.) not that i'm complaining! i like this fic - once we met kate on the show i couldn't understand why neal was so taken with her for so long, and this was my answer - i guess i'm just surprised this many other people did too. (i know 102 people is not a lot in the grand scheme. but it's a lot for me in a fandom i'm not even in!)
dillinger's got nothing on us (the short life and interesting times of the jay gang) (cwrps) - this deserves more love. period, end of discussion. i am more proud of this than any other fanfic i've ever written and on the one hand i don't care that it has such a small readership, but on the other i want more people to read it. altho i did post it on ao3 long after i'd posted it on lj, so maybe by that point the rush to find and read bigbangs was past. and i got more comments for this on lj than i got for angels on ariels. but still. i get that gen historical au's can be kind of a hard sell, but i love it a lot and want everyone else to love it too. it even has visual reference!
the price of fixing a shingle (cwrps) - the third gangster timestamp timeline-wise, and another h/c fic for
embroiderama! i had one prompt and ran with it twice. heh. and i had to look stuff up, because i'm me, and i finally had to figure out where the boys settle, and in the process learned a little bit about flagstaff. and i like writing the boys being cute and kind of schmoopy and caretaker-y.
sing to the sleeping (cwrps) - i'm not quite sure why i wrote this. i think i just had a random snapshot image, and the rest of it spun out from there. also, i like the idea of jensen singing to jared to put him to sleep. also also, see about re: cute and shmoopy and caretaker-y.
may 1934: carlsbad, new mexico (cwrps) - aka holy shit, i wrote j2 smut! O.O i don't actually think it's great smut, and i'm not sure how well i got my point across, but i liked writing it and i think it had to be done.
and now that that's done, i should get back to work. there's a lot of printing, collating, and hole-punching in my immediate future. yay?
