those of you who are going to wincon, when are you going to be there? is anyone arriving wednesday with the intent of touristing on thursday? and is anyone staying until monday who has room for me in their room? (my roommates are leaving sunday and i'm not, so i need a place to sack out sunday night. obviously i'll chip in for my share of the room.)
why no, i haven't bought a plane ticket yet, why do you ask? i still can't decide if i want to come in wednesday night and see nola on thursday (and possibly also saturday), or if i want to come in thursday and see it just on saturday. i'm definitely planning on going home monday, tho. which means maybe i should consider getting a ticket for the con dinner sunday night.... ahem.
also! and this is such a random and vaguely invasive fannish question i can't believe i'm asking it, but jared's brother jeff is married, right? does anyone know his wife's name?
and speaking of fannish,
there's a really interesting article about fanfic in time magazine. it's actually a good, balanced article that doesn't paint fanficcers as sex-crazed wombats freaks who can't come up with their own characters - there's a good quote from naomi novik - and it doesn't take sides as to who's "right" or "wrong" in any debate or discussion that pits ficcers against the folks who wrote the original canon. i mean, it has the discussion, but it gives weight to both sides. which is nice. and it mentions sex pollen and genderswap and mpreg and a wide range of reasons why people write fanfic, including the fact that it's a way for people who don't see themselves in the canon to put themselves in it. fic as politics. :D and it talks a little bit about the sense of community that comes up around fanfic and fannish pursuits, and the article's not just a vaguely judgemental "look at the freaks" story about people who write harry potter slash. it knows that fanfic is bigger than that.
