happy (slightly late) birthday
shenya, writing kiwi! here's to, you know, more writing! :D and cake, natch.
dancing boys: *do-si-do*
but also, rip pete postlethwaite, who was younger than my mom. O.O and who will always be brother gilbert to me. [1] you were a fine, fine actor, man. you were a standout in the town, a movie with many, many great things.
*sigh*
in more cheerful and also slightly more embarrassing news, i've had this annoying-ass modem problem since at least the summer, where my modem will randomly and without warning just drop my internet connection. when it happens i unplug the modem, count ten seconds, plug it back in, and wait for it to find the internet again. as you can probably guess, this is ANNOYING AS HELL when one is trying to chat with one's friends online, or one is trying to download something, or upload something, or find a cookie recipe on
bakebakebake so one can make cookies for new year's eve.
i have been convinced it's a modem problem, which means every few months i take the modem to a comcast store and exchange it for a different one. but the problem hasn't gone away. so a tech came out tonight to check on it, and it turns out... i had things screwed into the cable splitter backwards. *AHEM* so the friendly tech dude fixed it. and apparently i have had things screwed into the splitter backwards as long as i've had a splitter, and the modem i got when i first got cable internet could pick up the weak signal that you get when you plug things in backwards, but the new modems don't work that way and essentially the problem was on account of me being kind of a tech dumbass.
i am both highly amused and vaguely embarrassed, and mostly relieved now that it's fixed and i no longer have to worry about losing the signal when i'm in the middle of something.
quite possibly the weirdest fic i have EVER read. i know "weirdest" is relative, but the pairing is harvard/mit, people. educational institution slash! man, yuletide brings out the BIZARRE.
also! speaking of fic!
findyourwords is open for signups for 2011. you know, if you're like me and write more when you have to be accountable to someone in public. i should probably sign up with a word goal, huh....
also also the schedule is out for
spn-j2-bigbang and i may or may not have flailed a little. just a bit. possibly.
[1] apparently the first movie i saw him in was not in the name of the father, which is what i remember, but alien 3. which i didn't like, which might be why i can't remember him in it. and he might've had a small part. (i prefer aliens, even tho until i saw the shining it held the dubious distinction of being the scariest movie i have ever seen, ever. it is now the second scariest movie i have ever seen, ever. "they're coming outta the walls!")
