last night's killers show was FAB. also brandon flowers is short. also also seemed like he was really enjoying himself. i knew almost every song they played, and the couple i didn't know at least sounded familiar. they also did about two minutes of the cars song drive, which is not my favorite cars song but at least was geographically appropriate, as the cars were from boston. one of the guys sitting next to me had a joint (some girl came and sat on his lap and lit it for him about three-quarters of the way thru) which he dropped on the floor, prompting him and the guy sitting next to him to lean down to look on the floor for it using their phones as teeny flashlights. i was amused. but anyway, the show - they had explosions and a backdrop composed of seven very tall panels on which they projected videos and light shows and what looked suspiciously like video of the nevada landscape, and they brought out a violinist for... crap, i forget which song. but still, violin. which was nifty. they also had for reasons that escaped me a ginormous round vase of flowers onstage. i think my favorite parts of the show were when brandon held out his microphone to the crowd to let us sing, and we knew all the words. i love that. excellent show, i thoroughly enjoyed it.
wolfmother opened, and even tho i have their album i know exactly one song (joker and the thief), which fortunately they played. short set, but a good one. (
twitch124? they're from australia. not boston.)
and then i came home and ate a piece of quiche and watched three and a half hours of criminal minds (the fisher king 1 and 2, p911, and the first half of a perfect storm, and then it was 3:30 and i thought maybe i should go to bed). there was kind of a lot of "oh, spencer." and the occasional critical comment about his hair, because i can't help myself. also garcia is really cute when she's pissed off (and a little freaked) about someone hacking into her system.
"what the hell was that?"
"he had a bomb!"
"you didn't think we needed to know that?"
"i told you to go downstairs!"
"you didn't say bomb! you left that part out."
"stop stop stop stop stop."
"what do you mean stop? the house is on fire, reid, let's go."
"just let me think, let me think."
ok, i thought that was kind of funny.... "YOU DIDN'T MENTION A BOMB AND NOW THE HOUSE IS BURNING DOWN." "BUT WE HAVE TO STOP SO I CAN THINK." there were a couple nice lightbulb moments. i love a good lightbulb moment.
"you drink too much coffee - that's why you're so skinny now."
heh. skinny and bony. interesting to watch spencer with his mom. he's so uncomfortable at the sanitarium he can't even see her, and then he gets someone to bring her to the bau and she flips out and he kind of treats her like a child - he asks for her help finding "the bad man", not "the unsub". but he knows how to talk to her and how to calm her down and how to deal with her when she checks out of reality. ("i'm lecturing everyone on tristan and isolde. they're all gathering in my room after lunch." "can i attend the lecture too?" and he calls her "ma'am".) and i'm still kind of impressed that he doesn't seem to resent her for the way he was raised, he doesn't hold his fucked-up childhood against her. (i mean, being a twelve-year-old child prodigy in a vegas public high school aside, her illness made a difficult situation worse because she just couldn't be the mom he needed her to be all the time.) he takes care of her. he loves her.
and y'know, i know all this stuff about them - that he writes her every day out of guilt that he doesn't visit, that she used to read to him, that he tells her everything, that he's worried for himself because schizophrenia's hereditary, that he's emotionally kind of a lonely guy - but to hear him actually tell garcia all that is heartbreaking.
...as was hotch going to elle's house to wash the blood off the wall.
youraugustine's right - he's totally the mom. and he looks older by the end of the fisher king 2 than he did at the beginning.
and then p911 was back to all case, all the time, with no particular personal focus on any of the bau. except elle a teeny bit, i guess, because she came back to work. it was kind of a relief. and i really liked agent katie cole.
and now i should maybe leave the house. i have comics to buy and blank paper to find and i got out of bed at one. whoops. also, does anyone know why
google has a ufo googledoodle today?
