Hmm, the short version? The boys learn of a town where no one was dying. Turns out the reaper was missing. Boys called in Pam the Psychic to help them astrally project (i.e. turn into ghosts!) to figure out what was going on. There's a ghost boy who teaches the Winchesters ghost powers. Tessa shows up as the new Reaper. Turns out it was all a set up by Alistair, who can break another seal by killing two Reapers. The boys manage to stop him (and save Tessa) by getting their Swayze on. Unfortunately, in the meantime, a demon sneaks into the room and stabs Pam while she watches over their bodies. Sam returns in time to exorcise the demon, but not save Pam. Meanwhile, when Alistair confronts Dean, he (Alistair) is zapped by lightning and it turns out it was all a set up by Castiel to stop the seal being opened and "capture" Alistair. In the end, Tessa warns Dean that the angels may not be all that nice and Pam, in her dying breath, warns Sam that his good intentions are not.

so castiel set up alistair to set up the boys? o.O is alistair out of the picture now? (can demons be killed by angel lightning? and didn't anna zap him at the end of heaven and hell?)

well, we knew the angels weren't all sweetness and light (hello, uriel :D ) and that sam's good intentions weren't.... at least the show has gone to great pains to show us that he could easily be going down the road to hell that's paved with etc etc. how did he take the news? poor pam. :(
