the office closed at 2:30, by which time it had actually started to snow, and as i am so very smart, i went to target instead of going home, so i could get the thing for the kid for my parents' hanukah party. well, in theory. target didn't have anything on the kid's list - they don't have legos! what's up with that? - so i got a couple other things i needed, including windshield wiper blades, because one of mine ripped.
ok, see, my wiper blades attract ice like magnets attract iron filings - they always have, even when new - so after i parked in the target parking lot i squinched off all the ice that had accumulated while the wipers were, you know, wiping, and in doing so ripped the rubbery edge off one of the blades. *facepalm* so instead of a nice little squeegee type flap on the edge of the wiper, i had a flat edge. which possibly means i really needed to replace the things.... but anyway. i don't know how long my wipers are, so i bought two different sizes to be on the safe side, and when it stops snowing i'll replace the one i ripped.
the ripped one was of course on the driver's side, so i drove home under, shall we say, less than ideal vision conditions. fortunately it's not that complicated to get home from target, and i've done it a bunch of times so i knew where i was going, and if i leaned a little to the right i could see out of the passenger side, and everyone was going pretty slowly, and if i had to stop at every light and stick my hand out the window and grab the wiper to shake the ice loose, well, who's going to be paying attention? i've never fixed a windshield wiper by myself before, but it can't be that hard, can it?
i made it home without incident and asked my downstairs neighbor if he or his roommate would need to park in the driveway. he said his roommate would when she got home from work (at NINE tonight O.O ), so i pulled up far enough that she could park behind me, and then i shoveled the driveway for her. which was possibly above and beyond the call, and by the time she gets home no one will be able to tell i did it, but the snow was still fluffy and wasn't that deep, and it's good karma. :D
i haven't really been thanking people individually for their cards, but i love getting them and they all look really nice on my bookshelf and, er, the stereo. and i put one on my diecast metallicar. heh. also
ephemera sent me some really pretty paper, which is supposed to be stationery because it came with matching envelopes, but i'm sorely tempted to use it for little books, and also an "i don't want to be a hair!" keyring. it matches my
icon. :D and! and!
cicirossi knitted me a pocket notebook cozy! it's adorable, and nice and soft and kind of hairy. i just want to pet it.
and thus concludes your babble for this portion of the evening. :D i'm sure there will be more.
