i just tried to buy a couple stories from
torquere press and my credit card was denied due to insufficient funds or some such thing. (there were three short stories in my cart. they're $1.29 each. it's not like i was trying to buy a porsche on my credit card.) so i called the credit card company and said hey, i know what my balance is and i know what my credit limit is, why is my card being denied? and the guy said it was because my bill was past due. and i asked how past due. and he said three days. and i said i can't use my credit card because i'm three days late paying my bill? and he said yes. and i said that was the stupidest thing i'd ever heard and thank god it wasn't an emergency. and then i thanked him for at least answering my question, and i hung up.
is this normal? if you're three days late paying your credit card bill, is it common for the credit card company to deny you access to your card? you'd think they'd want you buying more stuff and racking up more interest and overdue charges. and anyway, three days? i don't owe thousands and thousands of dollars and i'm not three months delinquent in paying it off. is this standard procedure and i've just been lucky the few times i paid my bill late, in that i didn't have to charge anything until my payment cleared?
