Finally, a craft-only post. Almost.

I really want a yarn swift of some kind. I don't do a ton of spinning since I only have a drop spindle and I don't spin all that often, but still. I've been reading spinning/dyeing books from the library all summer and it motivates me to spin, but now the summer's over. Sadness.

Frugal person that I am, I always look for alternative ways of doing things that require "expensive" equipment. I know I'm still also a chemist at heart because when I read about the squirrel-cage swift, all I could think about was how I could recreate one if only I had a retort stand and clamps. When I become a chem teacher... *coughs* In some ways I do miss the chem lab a lot.

I'm still working on lysander_o's scarf and have recently discovered that I never mailed natea21's scarf (I'm kind of glad I haven't; it needs blocking). But I've also started on something else. I tried to do socks with the Confetti but my stitches are too big with the 2.5 mm needles; I need to get smaller ones somehow but Walmart doesn't sell them. Boo. So instead I'm working on a halter:

Beginnings of Confetti sock. Stitches not tight enough. *sigh* Will have to take it out and start again.

Start of halter, from Clea 1000 mercenized cotton. Weird/interesting because I'm triple-strand-ing it to get the gauge of Grace, which is what the pattern calls for.

I've made this halter before, but using baby yarn (acrylic).

It's too big on me (even though it's an XS) because the acrylic has too much give. Hence the mercenized cotton.

No piccies of natea21 or lysander_o's scarves. They should get to see them first, lol.

In somewhat related news, here's what I've been spinning:

Superwash merino batt, bought from Etsy.

I haven't been keeping track of twist or anything, it's the 4th yarn I've spun, but the first time spinning merino and first time spinning so fine. It'll probably be sock-weight when plied, though not very consistent. Still more consistent than the first few I did.

Anyways, off to Boston for a week. I likely will not have any chance to go on LJ until I come back, so have a great week, everyone!!! When I get back: read LJs, set the dye on the MCY yarns (omg *dies), and computer stuff. And also visiting New College.

Take care!!! *hugs*
