As I sit looking out the front door into the early morning light, with the soft sounds of music in the background, and I feel a temporary peace in my heart. Out side the morning sunlight is slanting through the tree branches, and dancing in dapples over the wood of the porch. The flag is gently dancing on the passing wind's wings, and the last of the season's flowers are leaning towards the sun. I shall miss the days of fall. I miss the long days of summer, and the great adventures that my two friends and I shared. I'll miss learning to ride english, and I'll miss the horses' funny quirks. I'll most especially miss the wonderful feeling of cantering through the open pastures, the smell of hay, oats, the arena dust, and the earthy scent of horses. Those memories will last a lifetime, even if I never set foot in another stable again. Someday I hope to pass this love of horses on to another, just as my grandfather did for me. Well, it's time for me to part ways with you. Go out into the world today, and smile. For even in the times of heartache joy can be found. Take the knowledge and pass it on.
