SHINee - 마지막 선물 (Last Gift)
It's not as hard as she'd thought it'd be, but it's not as easy either. She doesn't really have any schedule conflicts, just that it'd be too tiring for her to rush to the radio station so quickly after her previous schedule. On her final show, she doesn't want to cry, but once she realizes what a big mistake she's just made, the tears aren't very far behind. Sungmin looks away from her for the first time and she wishes she could stay, stay, stay, stay (in Chunji, with Sungmin, in Sungmin's heart) and come back to meet Sungmin's smile that made all the exhaustion worth it. She had him (could've made him hers?) but she was too stupid to see she had thrown her chance away the moment she agreed with the schedule change. She smiles at Sungmin, her last smile and the last thing she could give as his partner DJ. (It's okay that he doesn't smile back, it didn't hurt, it didn't.) It wasn't really a goodbye, she told herself as she stepped out of the radio booth (leaving Sungmin behind her) but it felt like it. She could see their future, holding hands, fighting over food and the remote, quick glances and a brush of fingers as they pass each other in halls, chaste kisses on the cheek turning into something more, but then she thinks of the scandal that could happen and its consequences and isn't sure how (if) they would have come through that. She wanted him so badly and didn't know it until she gave him up. She lied to him and said she never watched him or Sunny, she's too busy, but she watched more than once and listened and knew she wasn't what she used to be for him. She doesn't regret a lot, but as she watches the live radio on Jessica's laptop, she knows what she had lost and it was one of the only things she regrets. She doesn't cry anymore, but she used to, more often than she would've liked. She's accepted the present, even if she hasn't let him go as she lives in a world without him constantly by her side.
(Sunny had taken her spot, both in the radio booth and his heart.)

you can't, you can't, don't leave like this.
SHINee - 잠꼬대 (Please, Don't Go)
It's every bit as hard as he imagined and more. He's not as strong as he wants to be, if he had to be honest, and not even Kyuhyun's raised eyebrows could spur him into changing it, no matter how infuriating they were. He wasn't a stranger to love, and he knew he could have prettier and more charming girls if he tried, but he didn't think he'd love them the way he loved Sooyoung. He loves everything she does, even the things he hates about her, even if it doesn't make sense to Kyuhyun, who laughs and tells him he hopes love doesn't make him as stupid as it makes Sungmin. He is old enough to have spent quite a while in the entertainment business and he doesn't like to get excited for things that may end as suddenly as they began, and even though he started Chunji as just another job, it doesn't take long before Sooyoung changes that. He looks forward to sitting in the radio booth's chair with Sooyoung chattering away beside him, or turning her chair to face him, or raising her chopsticks to feed him before pulling them away, smiling at him like he is the only one in her world, he wonders if he is delusional, but then she laughs and hits him on the arm (it hurts and Sungmin considers telling Kyuhyun even girls hit harder than him), telling him to pay more attention to her beauty instead of spacing out, and Sungmin has never been more sure of his love. Then he is told she's leaving the show and he wonders if there is a way she could just take his heart with her. Can she be mad at him for being upset? It feels like everything she had done while with him meant nothing with her last show. She looks at him with red eyes, tears on her cheeks, and Sungmin can't stand thinking he won't be able to see her every show, laughing, crying, and he looks away before he can even think properly about it. He doesn't regret his love, but he does wish it was easier to go through heartache. He hadn't even asked her out, but everything he had felt made up for that, whether or not she knew of his love or not. He meets her eyes for a few seconds and she gives him a smile that reaches her beautiful, oh so beautiful eyes. He watches her leave, arms full of her things and her manager not too far behind, and resists the part of him that wants him to scream "please, don't go" to her. Both he and she can't do anything any longer and it hurts, hurts even more when he thinks of what they could have been if he had had the courage to just tell her. They could have been something close to perfect, perfect enough for him, but she left and he gave up, because they were stupid, Sungmin has heard it from Kyuhyun, but even if he denies it, he knows it's true. The next show comes with Sunny sitting in the chair next to his (Sooyoung's chair, he thinks, before correcting himself), she looks up with eyes filled with nervousness, her smile tinged with worry, she knows she's a replacement and she wasn't blind to Sungmin and Sooyoung, but she is here anyway, "I'm happy to be working with you, oppa!", sincere laughter and nervous looks towards Sungmin, not knowing where else to look. Sungmin smiles at her and decides he can be strong sometimes for someone else's sake.
(Sunny is nothing like Sooyoung, but she makes Chunji feel like another home again, makes him smile without realizing it, makes him happy. That is enough for him when he takes her hand and hears her happy giggle.)

right now, your face is smiling. am I making you happy?
Girls' Generation - 소원 (Perfect For You)
It isn't hard or easy, really, it isn't anything. She is aware she is a replacement the moment she is chosen, but this is life, this is their job. Sooyoung spends a week crying and the next being unusually quiet, while Sungmin's cheerful image breaks a little, he smiles less, teases less, is generally less playful for a few weeks, even when Sunny tries her hardest to fix both of them. She sits on the chair in Chunji and doesn't try to make up for Sooyoung's absence; she only tries to be a good enough partner for Sungmin. When Sungmin starts smiling more often at her, Sunny can't help but smile back and think maybe she's achieved at least that. He slowly warms up to her and she sees the Sungmin who Sooyoung fell in love with. It takes a few months and an offhand comment about radio DJ partners from Taeyeon before Sunny realizes Sooyoung wasn't the only one who had fallen in love with him. She isn't someone who denies things they know are true, so she accepts it, but she goes to the radio show and sits beside Sungmin with this new found realization and forces the blush to not creep up her cheeks whenever he touches her or teases her. She doesn't remember how long it takes, but they are walking down the hallway of the radio building and they turn the corner, and then Sungmin's hand is on her arm and his lips are on hers, pressing gently for the few seconds that the managers need to catch up to them, before he steps back and meets her eyes. He looks ready for rejection, standing stiffly, but his eyes don't hide his hope, and Sunny smiles brightly at him. She feels like suddenly breaking out into song, probably Kissing You or something, but then Sungmin gives her the most beautiful smile she's ever seen and takes her hand to continue walking down the hallway. She lets out a giggle as he intertwines their fingers, feeling pretty sure that this was happiness.
(Sunny knows she has betrayed Sooyoung somehow, knows Sooyoung will forgive her for it, but she also knows Sungmin makes her the happiest she's ever been and Sooyoung wouldn't want her to not have it. He's not perfect, far from it, and he upsets her as much as he makes her happy, but that's perfectly okay with her as long as he's hers.)
