Chapter 19: Reunion
Yabu was sitting on the sidewalk. He flinched as Inoo tightened the white strap around his wound. They were outside the factory. Everything was quiet all of a sudden. A red light was blinking nearby. Takaki was facing away, his silence was painful.
“We have to find the others,” said Hikaru quietly his arm around Keito who was sitting nearby, face hidden on his thighs, his sobs audible in the silence of the night. They were badly shaken, Yabu was broken. He got to his feet with Takaki’s help and frowned as golden orange light struck him in the eyes. The rays of the rising sun were becoming visible between the thick clouds and from the same direction a minibus was making its way towards them. A large bird-like thing was visible in the sky together with two helicopters.
“Is it Miyano?” asked Hikaru as he and Keito got to their feet. The bus stopped and the front door opened. Miyano stepped out quietly. Oblivious to the cold looks she received she spotted Yabu’s wound and smiled slightly. She looked weary and her eyes were puffy.
“Two times in the same week?” she commented with a sigh. Yabu was silent, too weary to even glare. The back door slid open and Chinen pounced out. Daiki and Yuto came next and lastly Ryutaro.
“You guys ok?” Hikaru asked seriously. Chinen’s beam left him flabbergasted. It was like a bright light thrown at them who had been locked in a very dark room. Yuto stood closest to the bus.
“You guys?” Daiki asked with a superior tone.
“Guys…” Inoo began. It was obvious this group was startled by their behavior. Miyano smiled as Yuto extended his hand into the bus. Keito rushed to his side and froze. Ryosuke stumbled out, Yuto supporting him. He looked at the older group and flashed his angelic smile.
“It’s been a while,” he said weakly. Hikaru rushed forward and in minute had the boy in a tight embrace.
“How? “ Inoo wondered as he and Takaki rushed to him as well.
“He was stronger than we thought,” Miyano said calmly. Hikaru pushed Ryosuke towards Yabu who was continuously staring at the younger boy in silence, his expressions unreadable.
“Yabu-kun?” Ryosuke called softly. Yabu looked down.
“We really need to fatten you up, and fast,” he replied quietly. Yamada beamed. Yabu returned the smile and ruffled the younger boy’s hair. He then looked at Miyano.
“I’m sorry,”
She looked back at him confused. Then catching site of the red light she exclaimed;
“Minna-san, we have to leave now, I’ve activated the automatic lock down of the place,”
Hikaru yelled, pointing hysterically at something. The dragon came and landed on a nearby building.
Chinen looked at Daiki who gave him a ‘no you can’t keep her look.’ Chinen sadly rushed towards the dragon.
“Gomen Kuroki, I’ve got to go now, I’ll try my best to come and visit,” he said passionately.
Takaki raised an eyebrow. Miyano was shepherding a shocked Jump into the van. The dragon growled sadly.
“I’ll miss you too girl,” Chinen replied, blowing a kiss. He rushed into the van just as Miyano started the engine.
Takaki nudged Yabu as Chinen wildly waved at the dragon on their way out.
“He’s never petted a dog and he got himself a dragon?”
Yabu chuckled.
“That’s our squirrel.”
