Summary : Everything had once been picturesque...until the day you left...

Arioka is a young crime photographer in training who finds himself involved with a team investigating a series of gruesome murders. Things start getting out of hand when the core of the crime starts connecting Arioka to a piece of his past that he would rather forget, and a certain someone...he could not.

Part Four

He stares at the ground as he walks, the way his black shoes scuff the dirth path seeming strangely fascinating. His mind was clouded by streams of avid thoughts as he clutched harder on the roll of paper in his hand. He was happy with his results and he knew his parents would be pleased too. But what made him so nervous was that he had a week before graduation and then he would walk up to them and announce his decision of studying Photography.

He had already talked to his older brother about it and had gotten immense support yet he still wondered about his parent's reactions.

"It's not going to be an easy life at the begining, so you have to work really hard to prove your talent,"

Daiki sighs remembering his brother's words.

He took good pictures, even with his phone camera. It had just started with pleased comments by his friends and family before one of his teacher came upon a picture he had taken for the school yearbook and pointed out that he had an amazing sense for details.

Every shade of green of the leaves and the grass and the bushes, every auburn and pink and blue and purple of the sky, every gray, beige and brown of the land...they were separated in his eyes...a unique chromatography. He would notice the transaction of the colours, he would use the light to his advantage and would capture it in the most accurate way possible.

"Senpai!"

He shifts onto the road and halts in his tracks, head turning and eyes landing upon the flustered figure in a dash towards him.

"How many times have I told you Yamachan, stop with the senpai, we've known each other for so long,"

The younger boy comes to a stop next to him, panting hard.

"You're still graduating before me,"

Daiki rolls his eyes.

"That makes no difference, what are you doing here anyway?"

Yamada looks up at him and gives him a sheepish grin.

"I wanted to walk to the station with you, can I? The others have to stay back for some club activity,"

"Yeah, sure stupid, why are you even asking?"

"Ne, Dai-chan...,"

Daiki looks at the boy next to him, frowning as he noticed the slight discomfort on his features.

"Do you think-,"

Both boys freeze at the entrance of a tunnel and gape as they watch a man forcefully push another against the wall, leaving him to crumble onto the ground. Daiki felt a chill down his spine as he spotted a long knife in the hand of the man standing and the dark red fluid dripping from the blade.

Yamada's bag slips from his hand and the man's eyes widen as he spots them.

It takes a few seconds for what was happening to register in Daiki's brain and he finds it hard to tear his gaze from the murderous gaze of the man with the knife.

"Daiki!"

Yamada's voice brings him out of his daze as he feels his feet move on their own accord, following in the steps of the escaping assailant. He moves fast, a surge of adrenaline rushing through his blood and manages to tackle the older man onto the hard road. He gasps for breath and cringes as the strong smell of tobacco causes him to cough but shouts in pain as he is pushed back roughly, the man raising his blood stained knife just above him.

The timely arrival of two police officers stop the furious man as the three become enganged in a struggle. Daiki scrambles to his feet in horror as the policemen manage to bring the man under control and handcuff him.

"You've got some guts," one police officer spats hauling the man onto his feet.

"Killing a person in broad daylight,"

Daiki realizes Yamada is right next to him now as he feels a tugging on his sleeves.

"Sawaguchi, you've gone from a petty thief to a murderer...and imagine...your own partner,"

As they hustle Sawaguchi into the police car, one of the officers looks at the two boys.

"You've helped us catch a dangerous criminal...thanks,"

Daiki shakes his head, numbed from everything. His eyes locks with Sawaguchi's cold ones and he feels a sudden chill.

"Let's go please," Yamada pleads and he nods, backing off as an ambulance passes them, the police car following.

"I spotted the two officers on a bench in the park when I followed you and allerted them,"

"I see,"

The boys make their way down the road in silence, closer to each other yet completely quiet. Daiki shakes his head and sighs, unable to get the image of the blood stained knife from his head.

"That man, actually killed the other guy in that tunnel," Yamada whispers in a low voice, eyebrows furrowed, trembling hands clutched together.

Daiki nods a wordless reply inwardly praying that he would never have to see anything like that ever again.

Daiki moves soundlessly, changing angles, adjusting his lens. He clicks, and moves and clicks again.

He notices the injury on the victim and the amount of blood on his clothing, the seat and some on the bag next to him. He takes the pictures of the interior of the car, then the exterior and notices how the shattered glass of the car window scatters on the ground.

Satisfied with his work, he backs off into the wall and watches the remainder of the team asking questions and taking samples.

"Very crude shooting,"

"Yeah," Daiki responds as Yokoyama stands next to him.

"There are some bullet marks on the seat next to the victim as well," he adds.

"You want to know something interesting?"

Daiki looks up at his senior.

"The shooter was left-handed,"

Daiki gapes at him.

"How do you know that?" he asks in disbelief. Yokoyama smiles slightly.

"Experience, still, the autopsy reports are going to confirm it though,"

Daiki nods as they back away to make room for the paramedics.

"Let's head to my office, it's going to be along night," Yokoyama states catching a glimpse of the time on his wristwatch.

Daiki nods and starts in his senior's footsteps. There is a crowd beseiging the scene of the crime, kept at bay by the police officers. Daiki sighs at the gasps, nervous chatter and a few shed tears and pulls at the zip of his backpack.

A small badge with the initials Y.N.D.C is pinned on one of the straps. He slides his camera in to the bag carefully before zipping it close and pulling it onto his shoulder. he can hear footsteps as he approaches his senior's car, finding him already seated in the driver's seat. He places his hand onto the door, fingers merely brushing the cold metal when he hears his name being called. Suprised he turns his head to find a lanky young man in jeans, a yellow hoodie and sneakers looking back at him with an unreadable expression.

He tries to smile. It's been too long.

"Yuto?"
