Chapter Eight - Impulsive
Despite the darkening sky, a strong looking powerboat was all set to sail as the eight boys, chaperoned by Detective Tanaka and his team got on board. The ship’s crew seemed unnerved by the huge rack of clouds building up north of the harbour but the boys were having a hard time concealing their anxiety. The last one to arrive was a very cross looking Miyano, carrying a large knapsack on her back.
“Is everything alright Sakura-san?” Yuto asked the young woman as they clambered down into the sitting area. She blinked in surprise before giving him a soft smile.
“Keisuke didn’t want me to come, so we had a little argument,” she answered with a sigh.
“I’m really sorry,”
“Why are you apologizing Yuto-kun?”
Yuto paled all of a sudden, face contorted as if she had said something painful.
“Oh…I’m…was it something I said?” she quickly spoke up, voice apologetic. Yuto shook his head and sighed deeply.
“I’m sorry…I know it’s no big deal but…Yama-chan calls me that, haven’t heard that in a while,”
Sakura hummed in realization. Yuto looked up at her, before giving her an embarrassed smile.
“I’m sorry, with everything that’s been going on…Yabu-kun…and Yama-chan…,”
Sakura smiled sadly as the boy stared at his hands, searching for words. She understood how he felt…lost, angry, anxious…she felt it too…every person in the room did. Yabu had texted her his entire plan and despite her finding it dangerous and rash at the beginning, she came to terms with it after the attacks. He was…right. She just hoped they would make it in time to save both of them.
“We’ll see them real soon, I’m sure of that,” she encouraged the younger boy.
“Yah…you’re right,” he responded cheerily, eyes gleaming with energy.
“AAAAAH!”
All eyes were on the youngest in the room who was staring at Chinen wide-eyed.
“Ryu what’s the matter?” asked Yuya as Yuri settled himself on a vacant seat by the window.
“He…was…there…at the back of the room…and then I blink…he’s right here in front of me…,”
Yuri merely rolled his eyes as Ryutaro mumbled in-coherencies for the next couple of minutes with Yuya trying to make sense of it all.
“Hey, can we really do this?” Kei said suddenly to his seat mate. Hikaru shrugged.
“Not that we have much of a choice any more…and you never know…we might actually pull through.”

The light drizzle pattered off the rocky promontory. Kota warily chose his footing and carefully grasped stone that was still relatively dry. He could feel the sprinkle of foam crashing against the boulders on the base on his back as well as the sweat building on his forehead as he climbed steadily, trying his best to not slip. He had already done so a couple of times, obtaining a scrapped knee, bleeding elbow and an unpleasant looking bump on his lower back. He just hoped the team would be here soon or at least by the time he made it to the top. He knew he would be more than exhausted by then if he doesn't die from a plunging dive into the sharp rocks below. And remembering sector 89, there was no way a hidden secret base would not have…well security.
Maybe he was asking too much, maybe he was expecting even more…from the rest of the team and himself. But things had gotten to a point where he could think of no other solution. There could be no more running or hiding…he couldn’t just wait till the organization lays waste to their homes to fulfil some obscured ambition. He couldn't let them play with lives…their lives…not any more.
There must have been a reason they had gotten these gifts, this power to do more than just…run or hide. They were meant to fight, to
protect…and that was exactly what they were going to do.
They were not soldiers, not lawmakers…they were just ordinary men that had not the ability to harm or worse kill but that was not part of the plan anyway. They intended to disarm the enemy…and how was something he would work out as soon as he reached the top of this cliff.
He arrived at a cleft, gasping for air and proceeded to snuggle against the rock, resting his sore arms and legs. His stamina would return soon he knew that but his will was faltering. It was as if the enthusiasm with which he had planned everything was being left behind with every step of his climb.
He held himself close; his whole body was drenched and the chilly wind made him shiver. He stayed still, taking peace in watching the waves crashing violently against the rocks. He looked at the sea beyond, still amazed at himself for having drifted ashore with the current. He would have taken the easy route through the forest but that would be like walking into the dragon’s mouth. There was no way the forest wasn’t under surveillance.
He held out his hands, as if reaching for the raging current below, enjoying the rain drops on his skin. He felt so at peace it was frightening, as if he could let go and be embraced to safety. He frowned as he noticed the increased turbulence of the water below, as if mimicking his own erratic heartbeat.
“This…is not possible,” he gasped as he watched a whirlpool form, slowly tunnelling upwards…closer towards his out stretched hands. He felt his energy draining quickly and for a moment he blacked out and by the time he regained his senses, he felt his skin collide against water before he was complete engulfed in it.
A massive wave crashed over the cliff’s stony surface, leaving behind a gangly figure as it receded back into its natural rhythm. The young man lay sprawled on his face, unconscious and unaware of the two hooded figures that stood behind some trees a couple of feet from where he lay.

Note: Any questions? The series is near its end, I've prepared a character bio but I haven't posted it up yet cause I'm still revealing their abilities bit by bit but if you guys insist I'll put it up regardless of where the story is. Chinen did something here, any guesses?
