Chapter Eleven - Escape Your Mind
“You will never be released from these binds…,”
“How long will you keep waiting for help that will never come?”
“You have been abandoned Ruka…we have been abandoned,”
The light throws shadows upon the wall. He could see people moving about, but his gaze was fixed upon the wall…eyes wide, glassy and unblinking.
The chorus of voices echoed in his head and the eyes on the ceiling were bloodshot, glaring down at his helplessness.
“We will disappear Ruka, everything will disappear…you will disappear…,”
The table felt cold beneath him, its chill seeping through the thin fabric of his robe. His hands were bound again and his hands were clenched into fists.
“Ready Ruka?” asked the unknown man. He had on a facemask now, but his hazel eyes bore down upon him.
“Are the sedatives ready?” he asks another by his side, getting a nod in return. Ruka sees the hammer and the long metallic pick from his peripheral vision.
“Will it hurt?” he finds himself asking.
His ‘doctor’ chuckles.
“Not one bit,” he replies.
“When you wake up from your sleep…you will be free from all your suffering,”
Ruka finds himself smiling. He fingers tighten around the folded pocketknife in his right fist.
“Ruka…you stole my strawberry pocky again didn’t you?”
“One-chan, you’re so mean…how can you suspect your cute innocent little brother?”
He hears women crying and wailing…an image of a hand reaching out to him.
“Ruka- nii...let me hear one of your lullabies…one last time,”
The eyes start screaming as the anesthetist fills up his syringe.
He closes his eyes and feels his mouth move. His voice stuns the medical staff around him.
“Behind that wall is a secret garden, that’s where all my treasures lie,
Around my neck is the golden key, and over my head the brilliant sky,
Open all windows open all doors, reveling in the winter’s chill,
When blood taints the black rose, it’s the puppeteer’s will.”
“What is he saying Dr Radcliffe?”
“Give me the sedative, I can continue this procedure by myself…clear the floor and keep our visitors in their office…understood,”
Radcliffe…Radcliffe…why did that name sound so familiar?
“Dr Radcliffe, meet my son Ruka…the heir to my empire,”
That voice…it was a man’s voice…
“My name is John Radcliffe Ruka-kun, and I’m here to help you,”
Ruka’s fingers work on the bind with the knife. His head’s pounding from all of the voices and the screaming.
Dr Radcliffe takes one look at the anatomical chart and flicks the syringe a few times.
Ruka feels his body stiffen as the screaming stops and the many eyes swivel uncontrollably. It made him dizzy. They then stop and focus on Radcliffe.
As the syringe comes closer to his arm, the eyes screach together.
“MURDERER!”
Swinging his free hand Ruka snatches the syringe from the unsuspecting doctor and stabs him on the arm. The man gasps, holding his arm and stumbling backwards into a trolley knocking it down. Ruka quickly undoes the other bind and jumps onto his feet.
“Where do you think you’re going?” the man barks, his eyes seeming out of focus as the sedatives began their action.
Ruka takes a hold of the long metallic pick and sees Radcliffe scurry backwards into a wall.
“You wouldn’t,” he hisses as Ruka comes closer.
“You're right, I wouldn't but you know I should,” he replies softly, a strange madness sparkling within his eyes.
“But I need it back first…I need what you took from me back…,”
The eyes start on an eerie chant of kill him and Ruka smirks as he finds Radcliffe struggling to stay conscious.
“Gokurosama sensei.”
