Chapter 24 - Recovery

“So, this is a Snag?”

Yuto shook his head furiously.

“No, no this is a Snare,”

“Snare?”

He nodded, cautiously aware of the young Idol scrutinizing his drum set through his red rimmed spectacles.

It had been a strange turn of events though. Keisuke, from being cold and resentful towards him before had somehow become extremely friendly. Not that he minded. The kid looked better with that smile on his face and Yuto felt somehow at ease with him around.

He was also, of course aware that Keisuke knew his deepest darkest secrets, but his resilience in keeping them to himself made him like the boy more.

However, the fact that Keisuke was still a star that had thousands of screaming fans made him rather conscious, especially when he had showed up with Keito, wanting to see the band perform.

“Um, Keisuke, are you sure this is fine? Dad won’t mind will he?”

Keisuke looked up at his brother, his eyes magnified by the thick lenses, giving him a strange anime look.

“I’m not bothering am I?” he asked innocently, hands behind his back, a sad pout on his lips.

“No no of course not!” Keito and Yuto burst out in a chorus.

Keisuke grinned.

The door of the basement room opened up to reveal an arguing pair and a boy with a huge backpack and headphones around his neck bouncing in on their heels.

“Say Arioka don’t you have school?” Hikaru asked completely ignoring Inoo’s “It would have been easier if you weren’t such a dunderhead!” and staring at the younger boy in mild curiosity.

“Nope, I’m on term brake,”

“So…you need to be here?” Hikaru asked again, picking up his guitar.

“Oh Hikaru, leave it, it’s not like he’s interfering or anything,” Inoo snapped turning on his keyboard.

Daiki stared at him for a few seconds before a sheepish smile graced his lips.

“So, you don’t mind me staying?” Daiki chirruped happily. Inoo gave him a glare.

“Shut it, or I’ll take Yuto’s drumsticks and gut you alive,” he hissed. Daiki gaped. Yuto clutched his precious sticks close to himself
protectively. Keisuke cowered behind Keito who patted his head in reassurance of his safety.

“Don’t mind him, when he has too much caffeine he turns into a dangerous alley cat,” Hikaru sighed giving Daiki a sympathetic shrug.

“Can we please start practice now, I have to be somewhere,” Inoo snapped. Hikaru gave him a look.

“It’s important,” Inoo added with a pleading look. Hikaru sighed and pulled out his guitar pick, readjusting the strap around him.

“Where the heck is Takaki?”

“I’m right here!”

Keisuke jumped at the voice that came from a corner of the room near him. Takaki pushed himself off the couch reluctantly and swaggered all the way to the microphone in the middle of the room.

“Okay, everyone ready?”

Daiki settled himself on the floor and smiled as Keisuke scurried over to sit next to him.

Keisuke looked at him curiously as he pulled out a video camcorder and started recording as the band began their music.

Keisuke smiled. The boys seemed a little embarrassed in having an audience for the first time but there was no doubt about it, they were a talented bunch.

The song was not so long and when it was finally over, Keisuke started clapping enthusiastically, making even the reclusive looking Takaki grin.

“Did you like it?” Keito asked bouncing over to Keisuke who nodded viciously.

“Ok people, may I have your attention for just a little bit?”

All eyes were on Daiki as the boy got to his feet.

“I have a proposal for you all,”

Hikaru stared, Inoo arched an eyebrow.

“As some might know that I am a DJ and I have my own show-,”

“You do?” Hikaru exclaimed incredulously. Inoo rolled his eyes.

“I would like your permission to let me become your official promoter,”

Yuto strode over to stand next to Hikaru both sharing a comprehensive look.

“The best way to be noticed as a real band by both companies who could hire you and to get fans is to get your voices out to the world and
what is a better way than the radio?”

“Yo man are you serious?” Hikaru started as Yuto shook him excitedly.

Daiki nodded with a smile.

“I already talked to my producer and he’s very much into the idea,”

“Wait, what’s in it for you?” Takaki snapped suspiciously.

Daiki shot at him what seemed like a glare.

“I’ll be helping somebody out-,”

Takaki crossed his arms and narrowed his eyes. Daiki clenched his fists.

“Fine, I’ll have a good resume when I graduate…happy?”

Takaki subtly smiled in triumph.

“So, are you guys in?”

Hikaru looked at Yuto who was grinning, then at Keito who seemed nervous yet was nodding his head in agreement, at Takaki who shrugged and then at Inoo who refused to make eye contact.

“I guess it’s a good idea!”

Yuto jumped, punching the air before wrapping his arms around a beaming Hikaru. Keisuke smiled, effectively hiding the strange burning in his chest.

“Great, you guys have 3 weeks to finalize things, then you’re going on air-,”

Daiki watched Inoo storming out of the room, slamming the door behind him.

“What’s with him?” Takaki queried, cocking his head towards the door.

“Um…mood swings?” Hikaru answered receiving a whack on the head from Yuto. Daiki narrowed his eyes.

“I’ll see you guys later.”

Inoo stomped his way along the sidewalk, fists clenched, tears streaming down his cheeks, before reaching the crossing. He didn’t care if
people were staring.

The hell with them!

How could his friends be so insensitive? All they cared about was that band. He wouldn’t even have joined if Hikaru hadn’t begged him to. He didn’t have time. There was so much on his shoulders. They wouldn’t understand!

He wrapped his fingers around his wrist, feeling the lump of the healed cut he had once made underneath them.

Nobody could.

He began moving his feet across the road, keeping his face on the ground.

“Inoo-kun!”

He yelped as he felt a forceful shove and cried out in pain as he hit the hard gravel of the pavement. There was a screech and a thump and he felt as if his heart had stopped.

He pushed himself up into a sitting position and turned, ignoring the ache in his body. He gasped in horror.

“Daiki!”

NOTE: Snare is a small drum in the drum set. This conversation was from a magazine cross-talk between Yamada and Yuto, forgot which one though :P .

And i don't want to write it in a rush either, afraid i might spoil it.
