Let me start with saying I had a rather tough week, heavy workload coupled with about 4 hours or so of sleep every single day. I'm glad it is Friday finally, even though I still have to go to work tomorrow, at least I can have longer hour of sleep tonight. Today didn't start quite well, too. I had planned to go for jogging with my colleagues, but ( Read more... )

It's nice when you end up being able to catch up with someone after a stressful day, it always makes things much better! :D

Your job sounds like it has a lot of good points, especially having nice colleagues, not having to deal with customers, no work politics and the nice work environment. I'm sure that lots of people would be jealous of that!! But, I think at the end of the day you have to weigh everything up and decide what the most important things are for you. I'm sure that some people have a dream job which they find really interesting and don't dread going to every day, and also have enough free time to do the things that they want to do, but they're most definitely in the minority, and I don't think that everyone can have that. If you change jobs there is always the chance that you'll end up being just as busy and having just as much stress, but you'll also have a much worse work environment... you can never tell I guess. I think that probably what you need to do is to decide how important all of the factors are for you - Is having more free time more important to you than having a nice work environment and getting on with your colleagues? If it is then you should definitely try and look for a different job. If it isn't, maybe you just need to adjust how you spend your free time, and find more time to read stuff, or use the spare time you sometimes get at work to catch up with reading?

This kind of thing is always difficult, because there is no guarantee that you'll end up happier if you make a change, and if you don't then you might well always end up wondering if you ended up missing out by not doing anything..

...wow that was completely unhelpful advice wasn't it? Urgh. I hope you can figure out what you want to do!!!

Yea, it does make things much better by having a relaxing conversation with your friend. :)

You're right about working, I've friends also working very late and feeling stressed, though they make good money from their jobs. I don't dread going to work, I'm generally fine with my job, but the performance the company is asking from us is quite hard to achieve. We've been hellish busy since the beginning of this year and the business is still going strong. We also have quite a few people, even veteran who had resigned as they can't take the pressure anymore. I'm not sure about how to weigh the cons and pros, too. While I'm generally satisfied with this job, I've headaches and weight gain due to lack of sleep, especially headache which is getting serious day by day. I'm not sure if it's to do with stress or lack of sleep. I'm also not sure when is the time I should consider as "limit"; should it be when I'm sick or diagnosed with some chronic illness? I don't mean to sound whinny, but I also don't feel like being thought a loser by quitting easily.

*sighs* I think I'll try to work on the time-management thing and see if it gets better.

If it's making you sick maybe you should stop then!!! I don't think that doing any job which physically makes you ill is good for you in the long run :( *hugs*
