Do You Know That Crazy Thing Called Love?

It is finally the end of the first semester! For now, I present to you a movie from Thailand.

I had actually watched this movie, Crazy Thing Called Love a few months ago. Unfortunately, I didn't have a lot of time and energy to write. It was recommended by a friend of mine, and at first I was really hesitant because I thought it would be too predictable to swallow. Also, I stopped believing someone who says, "if you don't watch this you missed half your life." They say that about Twilight and Paranormal Activity. I hated both. All high school stories --- feel the same to me. I finally surrendered and gave it a chance because the heroine ---- looked so much like my friend, Abi. And I just adore Abi. It is easy to believe this could be her anyway. Since her life can sounds like a shoujo manga at times.

This is one of the most enjoyable teen oriented movie I had seen in a very, very long time. It is adorable! ---and a bit predictable, but at the same time despite that it doesn't disappoint you.

The story is about a girl named Nam. She wasn't the most good-looking girl or the brightest. She was also in love with an older boy in their school named Chon. She was very self-conscious about her dark skin and her unfashionable style. This made her believe that she had no chance in winning Chon. As the movie went on, you will slowly get to witness Nam's transformation. Her hair became longer, her skin became fairer, her grades improved and became interesting enough to catch the attention of Chon's friend, Top, who was just as popular as his friend. I know that the transformation sequence is a little cliché, but it somehow didn't feel terrible to watch at all.

Top confessed to Nam, but she later told him that she just didn't have feelings for him that way. By this time, Top already knew that Nam had feelings for Chon. Maybe because of pride, he made Chon promise not to take Nam --- because he would be hurt if his bestfriend would take away the girl he loved.

For most part of the movie, Chon never showed any obvious signs of having feelings for Nam. At first, I thought Nam's feelings would be one-sided. I thought at first that it would be further cemented when Nam confessed that she loved him but he declined because he was dating someone else. However, I was proven wrong by the revealing of the contents of Chon's scrapbook. It was filled with page after page of Nam's pictures from when she was fourteen years old at the beginning of the movie to the girl that was in front of him that moment. In truth, he had always liked her. He even kept the melted box of chocolate she gave him and grew a rose himself to give to her. It was odd that someone gave her a bush for Valentines,

Sadly, Nam went to America because she became the #1 student in school and her father promised to bring either her or her sister to America if they reached #1. Not an easy feat when she was ranked the last. Chon went to Bangkok to shoot his career as a soccer player.

It was nine years before they would meet again. Nam became a famous fashion designer and Chon? He retired as a player and became a photographer.

A television show that was interviewing Nam asked about her first love and she began talking about Chon. Much to her surprise, Chon appeared carrying a bouquet of flowers for her. You could see that Nam was in a state of disbelief but there was one thing that she really wanted to know. She asked him, "Are you married?"

He answered after a brief pause, "I have been waiting for someone to return from the US”.

I am really not much for this kind of romance. I find it too unlikely. Though when it does happen, I think it is the sweetest thing in the world. This is very rare, but at least the possibility is still there. I might not be much of a romantic --- but I am not heartless. The acting was surprisingly good and the soundtrack was --- perfect. I loved the soundtrack and I think it also helped the movie's appeal. I also loved the humor and I have to applaud the actress playing Teacher Inn. She made me laugh in all the right times.

By the end of the movie, I developed this small crush on the actress playing Nam, Pimchanok Lerwisetpibol. How in the word did they make this pretty girl look so different? I have to admit that I love her dark skin too, but the difference is just astounding.

All in all, if you love romance, humor and drama then this is something that I recommend that you watch. You won't regret it. Watching it will make you want to believe in love again.
