Burlesque
Rating:
I have always been open about my interests, and I am sure I talked about my adoration for the classics. I adore Audrey Hepburn, Marilyn Monroe and Olivia Wood. For me, they never grow old. But, I am not sure I have ever told anyone about my love for Burlesque. The lace, feathers and leather--- incredibly sexy. That is why maybe it is time to give another favorite genre of mine.
Over the years, Burlesque has been associated with striptease. Funnily, it was originally meant to be a musical parody than a chance to show off erotic dance moves. It was only in the late 1800’s that some of what defines it began to come out.
• Minimal costuming, often focusing on the female form.
• Sexually suggestive dialogue, dance, plotlines and staging.
• Quick-witted humor laced with puns, but lacking complexity.
• Short routines or sketches with minimal plot cohesion across a show.
It isn’t really acceptable in most ‘polite’ societies. But in truth, I really prefer the original London Burlesque than the American. I find them funnier. I have to admit though, I may not always have seen the beauty in Burlesque. Like I said, people from polite society find it disgusting because of the suggestiveness and exposed skin. But I think it doesn’t really sell sex. It sells wit more. It is suggestive and at times jaw-dropping wit, but it grows on you over time.
It did for me. But, I think it is mostly because of Mimi (
chronic_doll)and Kring (
blaquecreux). They definitely look adorable in the Burlesque inspired fashion.
I am sure most people have heard about it by now. Christina Aguillera and Cher’s new movie is called, Burlesque. Over the years, a lot of pop singers and artists crossover to do films and fail at it, like Britney Spears with her Crossroads and Mariah Carey with Glitter. ‘A Walk to Remember’ was pretty good though but Mandy Moore still lacked something then, but now I must say that she is a more versetile actress. I thought for sure that it was going to be awful, but I was still prepared to watch it because I love Burlesque.
The movie is not Oscar-worthy, but I enjoyed the whole film very much and watched it more than four times already. I love Cher’s Opening song, ‘Welcome to Burlesque.’ She is old enough to be my grandmother, she has Botox on her face but she is still very very sexy when she sings. And Christina? I always thought that she is sexiest when she performs. When she sings and does those dances of hers I find it hard to take my eyes away. I am not sure if acting is really for her, but she is born to perform.
Mimi and Kring’s father told me that he and their mother watched it as well. They also found it enjoyable.
Strangely, my favorite girl is is neither Cher’s character or Christina’s but--- a girl named, Coco or Coco Puff. She is really hot and adorable. She doesn’t get a lot of speaking parts but there is something about her that is really attractive. Legs? Lips? Eyes? I am not sure. Though, Christina’s character is pretty good. I don’t find her as disbelievable as I thought I would and I think there are times when she is not on stage… other casts take the spotlight.
It is a good movie! Watch it!
It does show what Burlesque is. It is a deviant form of entertainment. It is about teasing. ‘You can look but can’t touch.’ They will perform your every fantasy, but again--- you cannot touch. So, forget the general belief that Burlesque is for guys who just wants a good time. A girl can enjoy it. But the beauty of it is not something I can easily put in words, since I am not really good at putting what I feel about it in words. You got to have to know it and watch it to understand.
