[Single - Something New] Johnny's WEST - ムーンライト (Moonlight)

Jun 27, 2021 02:47

i started crying at the 2nd last paragraph (before the last chorus) and i hope you all can join me

Stick your hands into your pocket, there's our ticket to space
Hopping onto a rocket headed for the blue skies, we're in for a bumpy ride*

We're gonna plant a seed on the moon in broad daylight!
No one's looking, so let's bloom a flower
That no one has ever seen before

How far should we go? I don't want to decide on anything yet
I feel like we can go as far as we like
Not yet
Say goodbye to the unknown tomorrow
I just wanna sing right now
Let's keep this between us
Even if the world comes to a stop, there's no stopping me

There were some young people
It's us from back then
In T-shirts that are way out of season
I think, I felt like I could do anything

The reason why I wanted to plant a seed on the moon in broad daylight
Was so that it could be your guiding light when the darkness of the night haunts you

How far should we go? I don't want to decide on anything yet
I feel like we can go as far as we like
Not yet
Say goodbye to the unknown tomorrow
I just wanna sing right now
Let's keep this between us
Even if the world ends, I'm not gonna let you end here
Not yet

※ [about the *]

1) the original lyrics for the 1st half of that line was "縁石に乗り込み青空へ" - "縁石 (enseki)" refers to "curb (stone)" as in like yknow,, the side of pathways and all, which i thought meant like, they got on a vehicle at the side of the road, which is really long to put in a sentence
so i just left it as "hopping onto a rocket" :'))

2) the original lyrics for the 2nd half of that line was "やじろべえしよう" - "やじろべえ (yajirobe)" refers to a balance toy and "しよう (shiyou)" is like,,, "to do" so it didn't really make sense in direct translation
so i interpreted it as a "bumpy ride" because,,, the balance toy be swaying from side to side???

please let me know if there's a simpler/more accurate translation!
