Kitten Renovation

Aug 14, 2008 23:31

So, I've been making a new bedroom for myself, along with the help of my parents and the overwhelming support of the cat.

In fact, it was all Smudge's idea.

Random kitten-in-a-blanket shot :D

This is him trying to get behind the chair to eat my computer wires.

He does a very good job of it. In fact, he and the bird work in tandem. The bird starts, and he finishes. Lookit them crazy eyes.

And so the new room idea starts. This is him in my text book bookshelf. Hmm, thinks he. This will be too small for me one day soon.

And these book choices, ugh. Mcfly? Puh-leez.

Ooh! Ball!

He spends a lot of time in my mother's room, which was happy enough to recieve a wall-to-wall, floor-to-ceiling custom built bookshelf a few summers ago. Hmm, says he. This idea has merit.

The bookshelf for my Smudge's room has a very distinct design. He is getting a double bed, which he will deem to share with me, and there will be one section of bookcase behind it for a headboard. Then on either side of that main section will be two littler sections, going to the wall and right up to the open door.

Peons at work.

Peons need sustenance! Tim Horton's ice caps for a hot summers day, and the all important pepsi.

The sultan is cleaning himself of sawdust at the moment. He likes, as is his place of honour, to sit right under the Peon's at work sawing the wood.

Smudge examining one of the littler sections of bookshelf. Hmm, says he. This looks big enough for me...

Is that a camera? I didn't say photos were allowed. Get that out of my Super Sekrit Area.

Is the coast clear now?

With a floor to ceiling bookshelf, Smudge will never be too big for a bookshelf again.

Hey, hey, are you still here? Did you bring Tim Horton's?

GIMMEE THE DAMN COFFEE MILK.

It must be here somewhere...

I bet they stole it. Miserable peons...

Hmm, says he. The work seems to be going well so far.

The main section of bookcase. Which we peons drilled and screwed together... and then had to completely undo it so we could put it up against the wall.

There. What's that? There's a screw loose. Inefficient workmanship!

*is really really mad*

Tired out by the hard work going on around him, Smudge settles into my closet for a quick kitten-nap, which is different from a catnap in that it lasts longer, and means he pretty much dies until he wakes up again. Nothing can disturb him whilst sleeping. Not even the electric sander.

The outer frame of the bookshelf.

Birds eye view, what? Hmm, says he. Birds? We have one of those. Ugh.

Detail work for one of the smaller sections.

Hmm, says he. I think we're almost ready to prime and paint.

Time to say goodbye to my old bookshelf.

It was fun while it lasted.

My Smudge's new double bed. Built from Ikea.

Bed wasn't ready, so he went to sleep in the closet again.

Painted, primed, and pretty much perfect.

The bed has drawers underneath where I intend to move Phineas as soon as the room is complete.

View coming into the room.

Hmm, says he. Is that bed ready yet?

This is my space now. Peon.

What, are you still here?

GET BACK!

After several weeks of effort, The New Bed in the New Room.

Detail work on the material. The light yellow leaf matches the room walls, and the white blocks match the bookshelf and trim. And the rest of the duvet cover is a lovely cool gray green. :)

And there you have it! A kitten with a new room and a new double bed ;)

smudge, taryn ftw, special moments
