Relationships vs Friendships

I was talking with my friend during lunch today and we got on the subject of relationships.

She was telling me about how in her last relationship she ended up ditching all of her friends to be with her boyfriend.  She figured it was okay, cause she "knew" she was going to spend the rest of her life with him.  Pretty soon she found herself all alone when her thought to be proposal turned into a beak up.

She was crushed.  Needless to say, the whole situation was even worse for her because she had no friends to fall back on.  Since she had put them all on the bottom of her priority list and her boyfriend at the top, they figured it wasn't worth it anymore to try to hang out with her.  They found new friendships and she was left by herself.

She said it was the hardest lesson she has ever had to learn but is grateful for the experience because now she knows that she should take time to hang out with everyone, not just her boyfriend.  Because no matter how perfect a relationship seems and no matter how much you love the person you're with, you could break up at any moment, and if you ditch all your friends, where would you be?  Sad and alone.

I found all of this very interesting to listen to because that has always been something I have vowed to never do!  I promised myself that I would never ditch my friends for a guy.  I know now more than ever that I have made the correct decision in doing so.

To all my friends: I love you all and I appreciate your friendships!
