What a WET day!!

Mar 31, 2007 03:45

Yesterday was a day that the bottom fell out, weather wise that is.
About the time I got off work and started to head back to my city, I had heard over my ham radio that the county I was in had been issued a tornado warning, so needless to say, I stayed around. *g*
I had called the county EOC that I was available and I took over watching the skies on the northern side of the county as I headed down the Interstate back towards my county and home.
I didn't have anyone with me so it was kinda hard to watch/drive/talk on the radio, etc all at the same time. *g*
Anyway, the closer I got to my home county and city, my county EOC, which I am a member of, I ran into some HEAVY HEAVY!!! rain and let me tell you this, I didn't need a car, I needed a boat!!!
After reporting to my county EOC via the ham radio, and getting phone calls from my SO, bkwrrm_tx, I ran into some MAJOR flooding, flash flooding to be exact!
There had been some ham radio reports since I the time I left my job of tornado touchdowns, but at this time, I haven't been able to confirm this. There were confirmed sites of wind damage through-out the 2 counties I was monitoring & chasing, but whether these were straight line winds or tornadic winds hasn't been determined yet, at least I don't think they have.
I got home about an hour after all this started and there is a creek a couple blocks from my house that was flowing out of it's banks! At one spot, the creek runs into a large drain close to the Interstate near where I turn to go to my house and it looked like rapids running ACROSS! the street.
I bought a small video camera a couple weeks ago for just this type of thing and I was able to video some of the rain/flooding near my house, but man oh man, I needed a co-pilot badly yesterday! *g*
Right now, we have another line of storms headed our way. Taking a look at Doppler, it is almost here but it is only showing some light to moderate rain, with maybe a small heavy cell in it.

Over the last two days, we have set a record of almost 4-3/4 inches!!
Here is a report from our NWS for yesterday:
RECORD EVENT REPORT
NATIONAL WEATHER SERVICE FORT WORTH TX
140 AM CDT FRI MAR 30 2007

...RECORD DAILY MAXIMUM RAINFALL SET AT WACO...

A RECORD RAINFALL OF 2.98 INCHES WAS SET AT WACO YESTERDAY. THIS
BREAKS THE OLD RECORD OF 2.39 SET IN 1922.

I recorded alittle over 2-1/2 inches here at my house on my weather station. So, needless to say, we have had some rain over the last couple of days with more to come today, then drying out for maybe 1-2 days with another chance of rain/storms showing in the forecast for like monday & tuesday next week.

Lets see, where did I put that Ark again?!! *BG*
