Valentines day welcomed the scent of roses beside Merlin’s bed and an anonymous note: a declaration of love.
Halloween meant apple bobbing, with noses brushing, and damp hair being pressed to high cheekbones, Merlin’s skin aglow in moonlight.
Christmas became a time of avoiding mistletoe , blush so rich upon Arthur’s cheeks blamed on the cold air and not on the way Merlin’s tipsy frame felt draped over him.
On the 31st, Arthur only remembers snowflakes settling on Merlin’s eyelashes, the warmth of a long-awaited kiss and fireworks signalling the end of a year and the start of something special.
