I am on the train, heading to college. It is past rush hour, must have been late morning or early afternoon and the train car is relatively empty. This boy of maybe 7-8 years old runs back and forth along thr car. I see him looking at me, then standing like, the way he sees, I am standing. He is trying to imitate my posture. Trying to look adult for one minute between his runs, and taking me for an example.
This was a long time ago. Litlle short from being 20 years ago, when i was no more than 20 myself. Possibly during times when i was young and stupid. Those were the times i tried to look like what i envisioned as imaginary punks of the 60ies looked like. Messy pile of hair, Neatless clothes. And he was taking me as an example to imitate. Thinking i was an aceptable model of an adult life.
Today, I am on on a train riding home from work. Neatly dressed in a business-casual slacks and well ironed shirt. The book is in hand and scholarly expression on my face. Suddenly this little girl in the strollers screams pointing her finger at me: " Mommy !!!!! Look, mommy. It's a boy!!! It's a boy, mommy!!!!! ""
