As the subject says, this is this year's Christmas meme. Only one per year. Honest.
Welcome to the Christmas edition of getting to know your friends. Okay, here's what you're supposed to do, and try not to be a SCROOGE!!!
Change all the answers so that they apply to you. Then send this to a whole bunch of people you know, INCLUDING the person that sent it to you... 'Tis the Season to be NICE!
1. Wrapping paper or gift bags?
Wrapping paper. Gift bags are convenient, but they're not the same.
2. Real tree or Artificial?
I grew up with a real tree and firmly believe that nothing can compare. That said, I've had naught but artificial for the last decade and haven't really been upset about it.
3. When do you put up the tree?
Sometime after Thanksgiving, but before Christmas. Growing up, it was always Dec 9. Now, it's whenever we find the time.
4. When do you take the tree down?
Not before the New Year. I like to keep up until Jan 6, but that usually turns into the first weekend in January--which is usually before Jan 6.
5. Do you like eggnog?
Yes, especially the nog part.
6. Favorite gift received as a child?
I was a kid--each year had its own favorite that could not be compared to other years.
7. Hardest person to buy for?
My wife, because she's usually around and I don't want to disappoint her.
8. Easiest person to buy for?
Josh. He tells Santa and Santa tells me. Fi isn't there yet.
9. Do you have a nativity scene?
Yes, and this year we finally put it up!
10. Snail Mail or email Christmas cards?
Snail mail or don't bother.
11. Worst Christmas gift you ever received?
I'm good at forgetting failed gifts, and I have no desire to try and remember.
12. Favorite Christmas Movie?
A Christmas Story.
13. When do you start shopping for Christmas?
This year, the day after Thanksgiving. As a bachelor, mid-December sometime.
14. Have you ever recycled a Christmas present?
Yes, but not one of YOUR presents.
15. Favorite thing to eat at Christmas?
I'm pretty easy when it comes to food. However, walnuts, chocolate oranges, magic cookie bars, GOOD fruitcake, and various forms of gingerbread are high on the list.
16. White or Colored Lights on the tree?
Colored, although I don't mind white lights outdoors or on other people's trees.
17. Favorite Christmas song?
O Holy Night, especially when hitting the high notes in the shower.
18. Travel at Christmas or stay home?
I'd rather stay home, but we travel. Traveling has its benefits--most notably, seeing people you wouldn't otherwise see.
19. Can you name all of Santa's reindeer?
Of course.
20. Angel on the tree top or a star?
Star. Preferably a colorful one.
21. Open the presents Christmas Eve or morning?
Some morning before we skip town. My wife's family does Christmas Eve. I grew up with extended family on Christmas Eve and immediate family (and Santa) on Christmas morning.
22. Most annoying thing about this time of the year?
The lack of time to ENJOY decorating, shopping, and otherwise preparing for the season. I would blame it on family life, but I've felt this way ever since college. The holiday season could stand to be a week or two longer.
23. Favorite ornament, theme, or color?
I've had some long-standing favorites, but I like new favorites the best. Childhood traditions don't always age well. For instance, spinner ornaments don't spin over energy efficient tree lights. It's better to be pleased by a new favorite than lament the passing of the old.
24. Favorite for Christmas Dinner?
Mince meat pie.
25. What do you want for Christmas this year?
An enjoyable time with my family--both immediate and extended--and some memories to cherish for the next half-century (at least). Winning the MegaMillions jackpot would be a suitable substitute.
