A couple nights ago, Josh was heading upstairs for bedtime when he stopped and declared, "I'm Thomas!"
His choice of Thomas was new, but pretending is a favorite pastime of his lately, so I gave it little thought.
"That's great, buddy," I answered. "Let's go upstairs."
"I'm Thomas," he repeated. "And you..."
While he paused to think, I wondered which character I would be. "Sir Topham Hatt, most likely," I thought importantly. "Or perhaps Gordon, the big strong engine!"
"You are Annie... the coach!" Josh finally declared.
I stood gaping on the steps, quite chagrined, as he finished his climb upstairs. "Come on, Daddy!" he shouted as he disappeared around the corner.
"I'm coming along. I'm coming along," I answered cheekily, and followed him up the stairs.
