The uncontrollable tiredness attacked Eduardo, which he hasn't felt since, yeah, since he and Beast became friends. He closed the page without making any comment. For the rest of that day, he didn't open facebook. In fact, for the next day, the day after next day and the whole week, he didn't sign in his facebook account. Eduardo knew he should appreciate the idea that Mark just wanted to be friends with him again, a nice friend with whom he could make small talks about pets; it was creepy that he actually felt wrong.
On Monday morning, Eduardo got a call from Chris.
“I'm calling as the PR of facebook not your friend, Eduardo.” Chris directly said, sounding serious.
“Chris? What happened?” Eduardo immediately got nervous.
“I don't understand why you do this to facebook, Eduardo.” Chris still in a businesslike manner, “as a shareholder, you have obligations.”
“What the fucking happened?” Eduardo raised his voice, unconsciously clenched his fist.
“Eduardo, you have to be aware that Beast is not only Mark Zuckerberg's pet, he also plays the role of facebook's mascot. Beast is sending a signal to the public, making them believe facebook is kind of safe, open, friendly and comfortable online home.” Chris said, as if he was not talking about Beast but Mark.
“Are you kidding me, Chris?” Eduardo checked the number to assure it was Chris Hughes not Dustin Moskovitz.
“I'm serious, Eduardo.” Chris sounded to be offended, “Mark hasn't updated the status of Beast for a week since you ignored Beast's apology. Compared with what he did last two months, those gossip magazines are going to be interested.”
“C'mon, Chris, you PRs love a high rate of presence.”
“In a positive way, Eduardo! I don't want to read any crap titled 'Mark Zuckerberg Killed His Puppy' with a photograph of Mark's deadpan look. If that happened, Eduardo, I would not tell anyone it was your fault, but we both know YOU were the responsible one.” This professional Chris was a little frightening, Eduardo thought.
“What do you want me to do?” Eduardo asked in a way of showing himself amenable.
“Easy, Wardo.” For the first time of this conversation, Chris sounded like Eduardo's friend, “Get Beast back in the public view.”
“Well, I can make that.” Eduardo promised and hung up.
It was not hard. He didn't open his facebook page these days to avoid blurring Mark and Beast, but now it was Beast. His BEST friend Beast.
