“Just because. I mean, I can’t do it anyway. Unless you give me your e-mail address. Then I could. I would.”
“Do you want me to give it to you?” Jesse asks, because he’s so unbelievably confused and Andrew is just so stupidly adorable when he blushes. Andrew blushes a lot, Jesse notices.
“Do you want to go out for a coffee with me?” Andrew asks and blushes a little. He also shuffles his feet and Jesse wonders if Andrew does that all the time, because that would mean that he’s, like, shy or something. Really really really shy and Jesse hasn’t seen too many movie stars that are shy. They’d get killed in this business, or something. Yeah, okay, he hasn’t seen that many celebrities of any kind anyway.
“You can’t answer me with a question. It’s unfair,” Jesse complains.
“Is it still unfair if the question reveals all of my motives?” Andrew asks, very pointedly not looking at Jesse.
“I, uh, I don’t think so, no. You’re right,” Jesse shrugs a little. He feels the redness creeping up on his neck.
“How about that coffee, then?”
“When?”
“Tomorrow too soon?” Andrew says, smiling a little. Jesse is pretty sure his face has this flamboyant shade of red he gets when he’s really nervous.
“I--I can’t. It’s my friend’s birthday and believe me when I say she’s terrifying. I can’t miss her birthday party again.”
“Oh,” Andrew’s smile fades almost entirely, but before Jesse can say suggest anything else, he smiles again, only this time the smile doesn’t really reach his eyes. “It’s okay. I’m sorry, I should’ve known you already have plans.”
You shouldn’t, Jesse thinks. It’s the first party that - except ones that were organised by Joe in their flat - he’s going to attend.
“Maybe you want to go with me?” he asks without thinking too much about it. “I mean, we’re probably going to be no fun for you, but maybe--if you want to go. With me.”
“They’re your friends,” Andrew says and Jesse can’t decipher the expression on his face.
“I’m sure they’ll end up loving you more than me. Well, it’s not so hard anyway. Um, not that I mean that they wouldn’t love you if it was hard. Um, okay. So, do you want to go with me? I’m not going to ask you three times. It’s the final offer. You, me and my lovely friends. What do you think?”
“Sure,” Andrew says and smiles. It’s a different smile from the ones Jesse has seen on Andrew. It’s soft and a little coy. “I’d love to meet your friends. I’m sure they’re all wonderful people.”
“Except for Justin. You’ve met him,” Jesse smiles and bites his lip.
“Oh, right. But I’m sure Justin is wonderful, too.”
“He is. It’s just hidden. Deeply hidden,” Jesse says and Andrew laughs cheerfully. He takes a piece of paper and a pen from his desk and writes his cell phone number on it. “Just in case,” he says, giving it to Andrew. “Be at my house at six tomorrow. Do you remember where?”
“Yeah. Blue front door,” Andrew says, tucking Jesse’s number in the pocket of his jeans.
