There is absolutely no excuse for people chewing with their mouths open. The only reason I could see the need for this is: a jaw problem or no lips. Funny, I can't even come up with any legit reasons why a person would NEED to chew with their mouths open.
Last night Kathy yelled at me and said I had no right to complain about Ruth chewing with her mouth open when I was doing it myself. I made her explain. She did by pointing out that I was crunching pretty loudly on chips and it sure sounded like I was chewing with my mouth open. NOPE. I was eating chips and salsa and it seems my crunching and munching on the chips was kind of loud (which it was). But once she actually looked at me, she realized I wasn't in fact chewing with my mouth open - the chips were just THAT loud.
Tonight Ruth was putting away some food that she got from the activity center from today's Thanksgiving Day meal. Obviously there was some turkey involved and it seems that rather then put all of it in a tupperware container, she managed to shove some in her mouth as she was putting the rest away. And that's pretty much what she was doing - shoving it into her mouth... and chomping away at it as loud as possible. I turned around and watched her before I said anything to see exactly what she was doing and then said to her "can you please chew that with your mouth closed". She said "what". I repeated myself and said "please chew with your mouth closed". She didn't really say anything but I know she heard me the second time around. But no more than 30 seconds later she's smacking her mouth again and I turn around to look at her continue to shove turkey into her already filled mouth and roll it all around with her tongue as she's trying to chew what she's already got in her mouth.
WTF.
Kathy gets mad at me because I don't spend any time with Ruth during the day - playing cards, going for a walk, taking her with me to the store for groceries or whatever. I continually tell her that if her mother could get that chewing thing under control as well and the other lip smacking mouth sounds she makes constantly when she's sucking on a piece of hard candy (again, she manages to do that with her mouth open as well) or simply just sitting there with nothing in her mouth but constantly making a smacking sound... I'd be more than happy to oblige with that request. Unfortunately, my biggest pet peeve in life is something I have to deal with on a daily basis and it's easier for me to avoid the pet peeve as much as possible.
So I'm laying in bed now watching TV. And Kathy got mad at me for being in here... so she slammed the door on her side and the picture frame hung on her wall by her bed fell down behind the dresser. I'm afraid to go pull it out and see the damage as I think it might have broke. If it did, I'm sure I'll hear about that as well seeing as we bought them on clearance at Target and I'm sure we wouldn't be able to find a replacement.
While I understand her being upset that I'm in here and she's out in the living room... there simply is no excuse for her mother not to be able to chew with her mouth closed.
